This thesis is about government involvement in the arts community - how the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is affected, as well as the artists themselves. Censorship is the main focus. Selected for examination are two specific cases: an exhibition of the works of controversial photography, Robert Mapplethorpe, and the display of the Enola Gay fuselage at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. This study addresses sexual harassment among female journalists at 12 newspapers across the country. Included in the sample were 46 reporters, 14 copy editors, and 17 employed in other areas including section editors and photographers. They worked at newspapers ranging in circulation size from 6,000 to 250,000. In addition, this study attempted to replicate at least portions of the 1995 study "Outing sexual harassment of female journalists" by Kim Walsh-Childers and others from the University of Florida.
