This collection consists of copies of materials related to Samuel Jordan Cabell found in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. These papers include copies of military bounty land warrants and scrip issued in 1832 as well as a will and some correspondence. Materials created after Cabell’s death are primarily by his son Patrick Henry Cabell. Because these materials are copies, legibility can be limited.

This typescript was on deposit at the library of the Daughters of the American Revolution where it was copied. This collection consists of copies of Civil War orders written to Captain Samuel Rothgeb sending supplies and orders for troop movements. Also included is a copy of an 1862 letter to “Friend Rothgeb” from R. L. Stewart regarding a steamboat shipment. Also included are copies of envelopes, a pay stub/check, an Army 50 cent note, and promotion form for Thomas A. Mau(l?)sly to the rank of Colonel in the 18th Regiment of West Virginia Militia.

Given that all collection items are copies, legibility can be limited but is overall high.

This collection consists of seven nineteenth century documents, including: An 1830 account of goods sold. The two parties are P. Beirne & Co. (spelling uncertain) and Benjamin Lemasters, and it is unclear of who is selling goods to whom. Survey of Lemasters’ plot of 1135 acres in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. The same mylar enclosure includes another copy of a survey from 1788 for Henry Banks. Letter dated 1835 form the War Department’s Pension Office to Lemasters relating to his service in the Revolutionary War.

Emmons and contains approximately twenty pages of materials spanning from July to December of 1918, beginning in the U.S. School of Military Aeronautics at the Ohio State University and including flight activities at Carruthers Field in Fort Worth, Texas. This collection consists of a microfilm copy of an orderly book kept by Sgt. Erastus Harris of Medway, Mass. Harris recorded orders while at Castle Island (Boston) and Fort Cumberland (Nova Scotia) under the command of Joseph Frye and Brig. Gen. Timothy Ruggles as a member of Frye's regiment of Mass. Provincials during the French and Indian War (1759-60), and while stationed with the 1st Massachusetts Regiment of Guards under the command of Col. Jonathan Reed from Apr.-June 1778.

This collection is composed of letters and postcards to Lillian from her brothers Donald and Darrell while they served and trained for WWI. Included in the collection are Lillian’s personal papers during her high school and early college years, such as programs, yearbooks, student publications, and grade reports. Also included are collected publications, clippings, and ephemera related to her brothers’ service in WWI.

It is uncertain how the folder of Clendenning letters written during WWI were added to the collection, but they are from Robert Clendenning (serving in the war) to his father on the home front.

Barton, the self-made physician of Syracuse, Ohio, including a history of the Fourth Regt. West Va. Vol. Inf’y, with an account of Col. Lightburn’s Retreat” published by Charleston, West Virginia Printing Company in 1890. The document does not cover Barton’s personal life, and only discusses his time as a doctor for his regiment in the Civil War. The original accession record states that the book is the account book of the unit.
