It owes this distinction to the University’s first librarian, Angeline (known as Ange.) Vernon Milner. Milner preserved these posters after the war’s end, despite their original intent for a short-term, wartime-only purpose. As ephemera they were produced and distributed for public display and then meant to be discarded following the war. Milner preserved the posters recognizing their strong visual impact and value in illustrating a campus during wartime. Today these posters constitute the Answering the Call World …

Promoting College Of Fine Arts Works Through The Institutional Repository, Anne Shelley

Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library

In summer 2017, I assumed responsibility for my library's institutional repository (IR). Content from the College of Fine Arts (Schools of Music, Art, and Theatre and Dance) had, to that point, been less present in the IR than content from other colleges. With goals of increasing visibility for CFA activities and scholarship and providing a stable digital home for its content, I worked with stakeholders in the library and in CFA to develop new IR collections of programs, newsletters, and student and faculty work. This presentation provides attendees with ideas about identifying performing arts content for an IR, stakeholder talking …

As scholars in training and future faculty, graduate students are a vital community within any higher education institution and a population that should be embraced by academic libraries. This book chapter discusses the collaborative effort of three librarians at Illinois State University’s Milner Library in developing specialized workshops and a strong partnership with the Graduate School. Students are sometimes asked to complete course assignments that are rich in media, such as videos, posters, or presentations. Sometimes they create their own original content by shooting and editing their own video scenes or photographs. More often, students will use existing digital assets--such images, video, and audio files--that were created by other people, and they repurpose those works to create their own new products. In order to create quality remixed media projects, students need to have some level of multimedia literacy.
