Global Trends In Servicisation And Comparative Hrm In Europe, Anton Kramberger
Anton Kramberger
The chapter focuses on a comparative snapshot of the level of organisational servicisation from an HRM and business performance perspective, using the 2004 Cranet data. Main research question is the following: How is increase in services associated with HRM practices within the EU organisations? Twenty countries are divided into two clusters: fourteen West European countries and six East European countries.
The study finds a clear dual pattern of different effects of servicisation on organisations. With increase in services, Western part already succeeds to include many of the high-road HRM practices, especially in Scandinavia. However, in Eastern part the old efficiency …

An Evaluation System Of The Science And International Orientation Of Social Scientists: The Case Of Slovenia, Anton Kramberger, Franc Mali
Anton Kramberger
The chapter provides a reader with case studies of science policy systems and problems related to social sciences of Slovenia. It gives some basic insights into the impact of various R&D policy measures (with an emphasis on the R&D evaluation system) on the internationalisation of the social sciences in the country. It seems the basic aim is that a greater international collaboration of social scientists in Slovenia is to ensure the higher quality of research at home. However, the current co-existence of two kinds of research practices, i.e., the domestic one and the cross-border one, in the social sciences are …

Instrumental Value Of Elite Memories On Past Violence During The Emergence Of A New State: Slovenian Experience, Anton Kramberger, Ana Barbič, Katja Boh
Anton Kramberger
The chapter touches upon the trauma of emerging from subordination to the past (communist) regime of some members (nearly 40 per cent) of the new Slovenian elite. The experienced subordination, including political maltreatment, imprisonment, or confiscation of their assets and/or property is important not only during the regime change (1988-1992) but also in any analysis of contemporary Slovenian political situation for these memories are rather regularly triggered in the public sphere. They frame unsettled contemporary political culture of the country and feed today’s discernable distrust of political authorities.

The Heritage Of Political Violence Among Slovenian Elites And Its Mobilisation During The Period Of Regime Change (1988-1995), Anton Kramberger
Anton Kramberger
The article deals with bad memories on experienced political violence among members of Slovenian elites, who were active during the regime change in Slovenia (1988-1995), when this country transformed from an ex-Yugoslavia region to an independent state. Although elite members are definitely the persons who may easily exercise force and coercive power upon others and not the other way around, it is interesting to see, how the old and new elite members were utilizing possible past violent acts over themselves or their families, exercised by different regimes from the past. Data are based on a special survey among Slovenian elite …

Anton Kramberger
The chapter evaluates the role of strategic HRM for a firm's efficiency as well as effectiveness of nearly 3000 European enterprises (using Cranet 2001 data). A sound positive effect of the strategic orientation of management, including high variety of HRM practices, on efficiency and effectiveness of enterprises in the market sector was found in majority of dynamic European environments (especially in Scandinavia), except in Mediterranean countries and Slovenia.

Regime Change And Elite Dynamics In Slovenia During The 1990s: What Can The Elite Reproduction Rates Tell Us?, Anton Kramberger, Vasja Vehovar
Anton Kramberger
The paper deals theoretically and empirically with elite-reproduction and elite-circulation concepts, to evaluate 'pros et cons of elite-continuity' discussion in Slovenia. The debate frequently re-appears in this economically unstable, socially fragile and politically unsettled transition country. A methodological framework is developed using the 'manpower planning approach' with an aim to meaningfully calculate and interpret elite (higher status) reproduction rates during the regime change 1988-1995.

Positional Elites In Politics, Economy And Culture In Slovenia During 1988-95, Anton Kramberger
Anton Kramberger
The paper numerically describes the nature and environment of a peaceful regime and elite change in Slovenia during 1988 - 1995. In 1991 the country (formerly a far west region of the Tito's Yugoslavia) became a new independent state and was soon internationally recognized. The paper starts with brief theoretical expectations. Then it outlines a special initial effort in this kind of research, i.e., the elite sample design: How the elites segments as well as their elite positions in Slovenia were defined in advance for the purposes of a special survey performed among national elite members during 1994/95. Next, it …
