In-sewer stability of illicit drug biomarkers has been evaluated by several reactor-based studies, but less has beendone in sewer pipes. Experiments conducted in sewer pipes have advantages over lab-scale reactors in providing more realisticbiomarker stability due to theflow and biological dynamics. This study assessed the transportation and transformation of sevenillicit drug biomarker compounds in a pilot-scale rising main and a gravity sewer pipe. Biomarkers presented diverse stabilitypatterns in the pilot sewers, based on which a drug transformation model was calibrated. Fly ash-based geopolymer (FAGP) and alkali-activated slag (AAS) concrete are produced by mixing alkaline solutions with aluminosilicate materials. As the FAGP and AAS concrete are free of Portland cement, they have a low carbon footprint and consume low energy during the production process. This paper compares the engineering properties of normal strength and high strength FAGP and AAS concrete with OPC concrete. Introduction Evidence has shown that the experience of violence by a partner has important influences on women's risk of HIV acquisition. Using a randomized experiment in northeast South Africa, we found that a conditional cash transfer (CCT) targeted to poor girls in high school reduced the risk of physical intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past 12 months by 34%. The purpose of this analysis is to understand the pathways through which the CCT affects IPV. Methods HPTN 068 was a phase 3, randomized controlled trial in rural Mpumalanga province, South Africa. Young adults experience faster weight gain and consume more unhealthy food than any other age groups. The impact of online food marketing on "digital native" young adults is unclear. This study examined the effects of online marketing on young adults' consumption behaviours, using energy drinks as a case example. The elaboration likelihood model of persuasion was used as the theoretical basis. A pre-test post-test experimental research design was adopted using mixed-methods. Railway ballast comprises unbounded discrete grains that are often used to form a load-bearing platform for tracks. Ballast degradation as trains pass over the tracks and infiltration of external fines including slurried (pumped) fine subgrade soils are two of the main reasons for ballast fouling. Fouling causes tracks to settle and also reduces the load-bearing capacity, which is associated with a reduction in internal friction and increased lateral spreading of the ballast layer. This paper presents results of an experimental study on the flexural behaviour of a composite beam, which is reinforced with longitudinal tensile steel bars as well as glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) pultruded I-beam encased in concrete. Radiation therapy is rapidly evolving toward the delivery of higher dose rates to improve cancer treatment. In vitro experiments were performed to investigate the response of 9L and MCF-7 cancer cell lines, exposed to 10 MV X-ray radiations. Up to 8 Gy was delivered at a dose-rate of 50 cGy/min compared to 5 Gy/min. The data obtained emphasizes the importance of taking into account not only the physical, but also the radiobiological parameters, when planning a particular cancer treatment.

Objectives: To investigate associations between dementia-attitudes and help-seeking intentions. Method: An online survey of 611 Australian adults (45-60 years) assessed dementia-related attitudes and help-seeking intentions in response to two scenarios of an experience of early dementia: for themselves (Scenario 1); and for a significant other (proxy help-seeking) (Scenario 2). Logistic regression models examined the relationship between four dementia-related attitudes (labelled Personal Avoidance, Fear of Labelling, Fear of Discrimination and Person Centredness) and help-seeking intentions. Results: Most participants indicated they would seek help from a general practitioner (GP) for themselves (82.2%) or for a proxy (78.7%) in response to the scenarios. …

This paper presents the experimental investigation of a novel solar assisted HVAC system developed for the Team UOW Solar Decathlon house, the overall winner of the Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition. This novel HVAC system consists of an air based photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) system and a phase change material (PCM) thermal storage unit integrated with a ducted system with a reverse-cycle heat pump. Optoelectronic integration technologies based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) can bring revolutionary change to on-chip arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) demodulation systems. In this study, we present several ultrasmall 1 x N AWGs for an SOI-based AWG demodulation integration microsystem of different scales. The core sizes of the fabricated AWGs are smaller than 400 x 600 μm2. Experimental results match the simulation results, indicating that AWGs have a good transmission spectrum of low crosstalk below -20 dB and low insertion loss below -6.5 dB. Railroad ballast, owing to its unbounded granular nature, spreads laterally when subjected to large vertical axle loads, which influences the track stability. Accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is an effective method to produce ultrafine-grained (UFG) sheet materials with high strength. In this work, fully annealed AA1050 sheet with an initial thickness of 1.5. mm was processed by ARB up to five cycles. The microstructure was examined by optical microscopy (OM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results revealed that ARB is a promising process for fabricating ultrafine grained structures in aluminium sheets and the average grain size after 5-cycle ARB reached approximately 300. nm. The bond strength in bimetallic materials is an important material characteristic. In this study, 0.1-mm thick bimetallic foils (AA1050/AA6061) were produced using one pass of accumulative roll bonding followed by three passes of asymmetric rolling (AR). The AR passes were carried out at roll speed ratios of 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 separately. Finite element simulation was used to model the deformation of the bimetallic foils for the various experimental conditions. Objective: To examine the relationship between sleep duration and mortality and to quantify the likely impact of residual confounding due to poor health status on any observed association. Methods: The sample included 227,815 Australian adults aged 45 years and older recruited from 2006– 2009 (the 45 and Up Study). Sleep duration and relevant covariates (e.g., health status, demographic factors) were assessed through a self-report questionnaire. These data were linked with mortality data from the New South Wales Registry of Births, Deaths, and Marriages up to December 2010 (mean follow-up period, 2.8 y).
