For the past couple of years Australian universities' enthusiasm for online learning has increased, following the lead of international universities in realising the potential of MOOCs to replace traditional face-to-face learning. While the number of students undertaking studies on campus has remained relatively stable over the past three years, the number undertaking online or a combination of on-campus and online education continues to grow.

In the twelfth annual Philip Sherlock Lecture, delivered in February 2005 at the University of the West Indies ( Mona, Jamaica), Olive Senior spoke about the journey she had undertaken to becoming a woman-of-words, and established the connection between 'tradition and the individual talent' with the claim that the voice of individual talent in the Caribbean is one that necessarily draws upon oral and scribal cultures.

Early in Body/Landscape Journals Margaret Somerville poses the question '[h]ow do I represent myself and the landscape?'. Throughout the heterogeneous textual topography that is Body/Landscape Journals she attempts to represent, indeed perform, her embodied relationship to place. As a historian, Somerville has collaborated with Aboriginal women to record their oral histories. These collaborative and intimate working processes have seemingly realigned Somerville's desires and writing practices toward Aboriginality. Body/Landscape Journals is an exploration and working through of her desire to write an embodied sense of belonging in Australia. Television occupies a central place in most Australian homes, and 'TV talk' is an important process in negotiations of individual and group identities (Gillespie. 1995). TV is the focus of many private, family interactions. As a 'window on the world', television is also a primary source of information about public life. Thus TV is deeply implicated both in interactions within the home, and in our understandings of the wider 'home' of the nation.
