Land Value expectations are important to land owners, agricultural producers, lenders, governmental agencies, and other parties. Greater understanding of land values and the factors involved in their determination is therefore beneficial to the decision-making process.

The analysis of farmland values has been a major focus on the agricultural economics profession for several decades. Early research focused primarily on the measurement of the relationship of income levels to land values. In more recent years, econometric models have attempted to uncover additional economic factors which influence the value of farmland.

The California Supreme Court, in its controversial Tarasoff decision, ruled that a psychotherapist may be found negligent when he fails to prevent his patient from harming someone.

When a therapist determines, or pursuant to the standards of his profession should determine, that his patient presents a serious danger of violence to another, he incurs an obligation to use reasonable care to protect the intended victim against such danger. The discharge of this duty may require the therapist to take one or more of various steps, depending on the nature of the case. Thus it may call for him to warn …

The Bankruptcy Reform Act's treatment of belatedly perfected security interests in personal property is enigmatic, because it attempts to employ preference law to avoid a class of transfers, so-called "secret liens," that are not true preferences. When a security interest is granted in exchange for contemporaneous value, preference policy in bankruptcy is not offended, because the transaction does not cause a depletion of the debtor's estate for the benefit of a particular creditor. However, the effect of the timing rules of section 547(e) of the Bankruptcy Reform Act is to treat most security interests perfected during the preference period and …

Simulations of space use by animals were run to determine the relationship among home range area estimates, variability, and sample size (number of locations). As sample size increased, home range size increased asymptotically, whereas variability decreased among mean home range area estimates generated by multiple simulations for the same sample size. Our results suggest that field workers should ascertain between 100 and 200 locations in order to estimate reliably home range area. In some cases, this suggested guideline is higher than values found in the few published studies in which the relationship between home range area and number of locations …

Joshua Scottow was a colonial American merchant and the author of two histories of early New England: OLD MEN’S TEARS FOR THEIR OWN DECLENSIONS (1691) and A NARRATIVE OF THE PLANTING OF THE MASSACHUSETTS COLONY ANNO 1628 (1694). This article contains a brief biography, a critical appraisal, and bibliography of references. Scottow settled in Boston where he was a member of the Old (South) Church. He traded with Acadia (Quebec), developed frontier settlements near Scarborough (Maine), and served as a captain in King Philip’s War. Scottow was a devout supporter of the orthodox New England theocracy. His two histories are …

Das Herbarium der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg besitzt eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Pflanzen aus der Mongolei. Das im wesentlichen während gemeinsamer deutsch-mongolischer biologischer Expeditionen gesammelte Material liegt als selbständige Sammlung vor. Sie enthält ca. 8000 Bögen höherer Pflanzen und umfaßt ca. 1300 determinierte Arten. Ein bedeutender Teil wurde von Spezialisten bestimmt. Umfangreich sind auch die Aufsammlungen von Flechten und Moosen , geringer die von Pilzen. Es konnten hierbei wie bei den höheren Pflanzen zahlreiche Erstnachweise erbracht werden.

Im Verlaufe der 1977 und 1978 in drei verschiedenen Höhenstufen im Gebirge Charchiraa-uul, Aimak Uvs, im NW der Mongolei durchgeführten ökologischen Untersuchungen konnten auch 64 Arten mit 1539 Exemplaren aus 15 Familien d er Heteroptera erbeutet werden. Die Fänge wurden vor allem mit Hlife von Barberfallen und Gelbschalen erzielt. Am stärksten vertreten waren die beiden Familien der Miridae und Lygaeidae, von den übrigen Familien wurden j eweils nur wenige (eine bis höchstens vier) Arten gefangen. Определе ние видов ковыля, особенно в нецветущем состоянии, встречается с некоторыми трудностями.

Мы попытались выяснить некоторых отличий в анатомических строениях листа у некоторых видов ковыля, что облегчило бы выяснению дополнительного критерия в их определении.

On that cold Dakota day, Fort Mandan was the scene of angry words and hostile gestures as Mandans and Hidatsas traded jeers and insults. They may include some new discoveries and some new interpretations and, by virtue of the benefits of hindsight, be marginally better than their predecessors. Therefore, anyone who may wish to dismiss this new version of the atlas of the Lewis and Clark journals as a "mere" re-edition of the earlier version edited by Reuben Gold Thwaites had better be advised: this new atlas is a great deal more than just are-editing of the Thwaites atlas. Studies on the behavior and experiences of pedestrians have continued unabated since the first major bibliography on the subject, was compiled by Dietrich Garbrecht (1971a). Numerous additions were noted in a supplement by this author (Hill, 1976a). The present bibliography summarizes and updates these earlier works. Further, it includes several related references from the environmental design research literature which significantly illuminate the general problem of understanding the pedestrian environment. References on route choice by automobile drivers have specifically been included to encourage comparisons between vehicular and pedestrian transportation modes.
