The study investigated employability skills of library and information science (LIS) graduates as determinant for employment in university libraries in some selected university libraries in Nigeria. This study adopted the descriptive survey design. The population of the study consists of 6 heads of university libraries in South- South and South East, Nigeria. A self constructed questionnaire was used for the study. A total of 6 copies of the questionnaire were distributed and retrieved using descriptive statistics mean and percentage mean score of 2.5 and above and percentage score of 50% were considered as acceptable. The article asserts that practical experience is a critical and too often neglected component in Master of Library and Information Science/Library and Information Studies (MLIS/LIS) graduate programs. It advocates for the necessity of enhancing professional development initiatives such as mandating internships as a condition of graduation, which will offer students a significantly greater chance of successfully transitioning from graduate study to professional employment. It investigates U.S. workforce trends from 2008-2020, which reveal the competitiveness of the field and the difficulties experienced by graduates attempting to obtain employment in the absence of concrete, hands-on, library-based experience.

Daily and weekly newspapers are closing at alarming rates, leaving readers without local coverage in many parts of the country. More than 5,000 of the remaining newspapers in the United States are weeklies, providing meeting coverage, agricultural news and keeping small towns informed. Yet, not nearly enough research exists about the people working at those newspapers. More than 1,000 email surveys were sent in early 2021 to weekly news editors, publishers or owners in seven states seeking opinions on successes and challenges in hiring and retaining weekly journalists. Introduction — Nebraska is 1 of 26 states that did not protect LGBT people from employment discrimination prior to Bostock vs. Clayton County. This article examines debates in Nebraska about LGBT employment nondiscrimination as a window into how citizenship is defined in relation to sexuality and gender identity.

This study evaluated the influence of indigene-ship and interpersonal relationship on employment of staff in selected federal university libraries in South-West, Nigeria. The selected libraries are the Hezekiah Olowsanmi Library of Obafemi Awolowo Univesity, Ile-Ife and Kenneth Dike library of the University of Ibadan. Two research objectives and two hypotheses were raised to guide the study. The ex-post facto research design was adopted, while census sampling technique was employed. The Promise Of Worker Training: New Insights Into The Effects Of Government Funded Training Programs, M. Jared Mcentaffer

Using data on worker training programs in South Dakota over the years 2002 – 11, this study estimates the employment and earnings effects of occupational skills training and on-the-job training. Average treatment effects for the first and third calendar quarters after training are reported by: gender, worker type, demographic group, region of residence, and time period of job loss.

Both occupational skills training and on-the-job training effectively increased the employment rates and incomes of participants. The effectiveness of occupational skills training tended to grow as time passed, but the effectiveness of on-the-job training tended to fade over time. Three calendar …

Walking A High Beam: The Balance Between Employment Stability, Workplace Flexibility, And Nonresident Father Involvement, Jason T. Castillo, Greg W. Welch, Christian M. Sarver

Compared with resident fathers, nonresident fathers are more likely to be unemployed or underemployed and less likely, when they are employed, to have access to flexible work arrangements. Although lack of employment stability is associated with lower levels of father involvement, some research shows that increased stability at work without increased flexibility is negatively related to involvement. Using data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study (N = 895), the authors examined the relationship between nonresident fathers’ employment stability, workplace flexibility, and father involvement. Results indicate that workplace flexibility, but not employment stability, is associated with higher levels of …

Whether or not child care provider characteristics and factors related to the care giving environment impact breastfeeding duration for working mothers has not been systematically studied. In this dissertation, I use Ecological Health Promotion Theory to explore the relationship between child care and breastfeeding through three different analyses. First, I interviewed nine child care providers to assess their knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about infant feeding and whether they vary on these factors across individuals and child care licensing types.
