This thesis explores how the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shift in the way parasocial relationships between music artists and their followers are created and maintained on social media platforms. Previous literature on the phenomenon of parasocial interactions advancing into parasocial relationships was discussed and analyzed as foundation for the research. The researcher conducted an online survey questionnaire and a social listening content analysis to study participants' behavior prior and during the pandemic, and how this affected participants' parasocial relationships with the music artists that they follow on the social media platforms that they use. Background: ADHD is characterized by a high prevalence, functional impairment across the lifespan, negative long-term consequences, and a heterogeneous etiology, rendering it of significant public health import. Despite this, there is still a significant delay to treatment as well as low rate of lifetime treatment contact in the ADHD population, which may potentially increase the associated personal and public health burdens. While approximately 10% of adults ages 18 to 64 living in the United States identify as having a disability, workers with disabilities make up only 3% of the labor force (Livermore and Schimmel Hyde 2020; Paul et al. 2020). When compared to their non-disabled counterparts, those with disabilities have lower employment rates and earnings, are more likely to work in precarious and low wage jobs and report higher levels of workplace discrimination (BLS 2020; Maroto and Pettinicchio 2014b; Robert and Harlan 2006).
