Effects Of Colon Cancer Risk Counseling For First-Degree Relatives, Karen Glanz, Alana D. Steffen, Lauren Taglialatela

Background: Individuals with a first-degree relative who has had colorectal cancer are at increased risk for colorectal cancer and thus can benefit from early detection. Tailored risk counseling may increase adherence to screening guidelines in these persons. The present study evaluated a culturally sensitive Colon Cancer Risk Counseling (CCRC) intervention for relatives of colorectal cancer patients.

Methods: A randomized trial evaluated personalized CCRC sessions with print materials and follow-up phone calls compared with a comparable General Health Counseling (GHC) intervention. The article examines the effect of AxisCard smart card at Griffin Technical College on the use of the library services and resources. AxisCard is a technology designed to facilitate ease of use of library resources, solve the problem of multiple passwords and save important personal information repeatedly entered into online forms. The study found that students desire to use other services that are not currently provided at Griffin such as access to their BANNER accounts, use in vending machines, access to photocopies and customized desktop.

In Fall 2004, the Chair of the Department of Communication and Fine Arts was charged with customizing the TROY University Orientation course (TROY 1101) curriculum and activities for the Montgomery Campus student population. After talking with the Montgomery Campus library director about the need for including a comprehensive library component, the Chair began working with two librarians to create a library orientation component for TROY 1101, a one-semester hour course that would be required for all new and transfer students effective Fall Semester 2005.

Libraries are no longer bound by print and paper. In this digital age, where Library 2.0 is a buzzword among the academic librarians, online resources are increasingly becoming the norm. How, then, do librarians serve students of construction, landscape architecture, and architecture, and provide them with hands-on examples of materials they will encounter once they graduate, when most databases represent these products only in the form of online images? Virtual Reference Service In Southeastern Academic Libraries: A Study Of Availability, David L. Dehart, Ann Viles

Academic libraries are experiencing a gradual decline in the number of reference transactions. In a recent compilation of statistics for members of the Association of Research Libraries, for example, the median numbers of reference transactions reported fell from 134,944 in 1998 to 66,300 in 2005, an average drop of 4.6% per year (Kyrillidou and Young 2006). Traditional reference transactions still greatly outnumber virtual transactions in most libraries, but there is some speculation that virtual reference will overtake traditional reference in the near future. Stakeholder Contributions To Container Port Capacity: A Survey Of Port Authorities, Michael J. Maloni, Eric C. Jackson

Faculty Articles

Given recent concerns about North American port congestion, this paper examines stakeholder involvement in expanding port capacity to meet significant volume growth. North American container port authorities were surveyed to identify key capacity factors and subsequent participation requirements by stakeholders such as terminal operators, longshore labor, railroads, steamship lines, truckers, and government. The resulting analysis indicates port frustration with participation currently offered by all stakeholders, especially the federal government and railroads. Such results further validate the requirement for a multi-stakeholder approach to port capacity expansion and suggest the need for national freight policy and planning leadership.
