Influence Of Socio-Environmental Forces On Use Of E-Learning By Teachers In Selected Tertiary Institutions In Oyo State, Nigeria, Funmilola Olubunmi Omotayo, Wasiu Adewale Tiamiyu
The African Journal of Information Systems
The study applied institutional theory to investigate socio-environmental factors [coercive pressures (CPs), normative pressures (NPs) and mimetic pressures (MPs)] influencing the use of e-learning by teachers of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted. Purposive sampling was used to select three tertiary institutions, and proportionate to size sampling was used to select the respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Frequency distribution and percentages, as well as multiple regressions were used for data analysis. The results revealed that CPs, in contrast to NPs and MPs had no significant relationship with attitude and intention to use e-learning. Attitude had …

High-Impact Practices In Anthropology: Creating A Bridge Between Liberal Arts And Neoliberal Values, Susan Kirkpatrick Smith, Brandon D. Lundy, Cheyenne Dahlmann

Neoliberal values are dramatically affecting higher education in the United States, with a focus on running these institutions as businesses and molding students into productive workers. This shift toward training and away from traditional liberal arts education at U.S. universities and colleges has occurred even as studies demonstrate that the ability to adapt in a rapidly evolving marketplace promotes long-term professional success. While neoliberalism and traditional liberal arts education are often seen as antithetical, we show how one anthropology program has combined these values into pedagogical practice through a select subset of high impact practices to improve academic outcomes for …

With the ultimate intention of seeking a kind of dialogue that facilitates personal, relational, and collective growth and may be practiced in our everyday lives, this paper examines the fundamental role of interpretation and communication in all human experience. The overall work is positioned at the intersection of Philosophical Hermeneutics and Interpersonal Communication, and begins with an ontology of human experience as the inextricable relation between the experiencer and what is experienced, contextually situated as temporal and embodied, and conditioned by the three interrelated processes of affect, understanding, and discourse as they are mediated by an unique constitutive framework. In the wake of protests against law enforcement for an array of reasons, law enforcement officers and agencies have a responsibility to recognize and utilize the available mediums of communication with which they may best develop a connection to the communities they serve. What do you tell a prospective graduate student who asks about job opportunities for interdisciplinary degree holders, such as in International Conflict Management (or other degrees oriented toward peace and justice studies)? First, you make the point that the degree is both academic and practice-oriented. In fact, it can be viewed as a design or applied science—design in the sense of architecture, though the artifact is a peace agreement, a policy, a program, or a diplomatic initiative; applied in that it seeks to prepare people to solve real-world problems

Workplace Deviance And Recession, Aniruddha Bagchi, Siddhartha Bandyopadhyay

We examine the relationship between the incidence of workplace deviance (on-the-job crime) and the state of the economy. A worker's probability of future employment depends on whether she has been deviant as well as on the availability of jobs. Using a two period model we show that the net impact on deviant behavior to changes in unemployment can go either way depending upon the nature of the equilibrium. Two kinds of equilibria are possible. In one, a non-deviant's probability of being employed increases as expected market conditions improve which lowers the incentive to be a deviant. Winning And Other Determinants Of Revenue In North America's Major Professional Sports Leagues, John Charles Bradbury

This study investigates recent determinants of revenue in North America’s four major professional sports leagues. Estimates reveal that revenue is positively associated with winning in baseball (MLB), basketball (NBA), and hockey (NHL), but not in football (NFL). The returns to winning are not diminishing as commonly assumed, which casts doubt on the uncertainty of outcome hypothesis, and differences across leagues are consistent with revenue sharing arrangements. Estimates also indicate a strong negative relationship between stadium age and revenue, which is consistent with observed rapid replacement of sports stadiums. The results have several important implications for economic models of sports leagues.

As e-books have come to hold a major impact on library collection building activities, the influence of reviews of titles and the on-going conversion of titles to a digital format have significant potential impacts for libraries. Reviewing tools such as Choice and the lag-time between publication notice of the print edition of a work and its corresponding e-version asks the questions, “How many of the print titles that are reviewed in Choice have a corresponding e-version ready for purchase?” and “How used are those e-versions in comparison with print?”

Prior to receiving a memorandum from the Director of Risk Management that the libraries would be included in a university-wide risk assessment study, the authors’ only contacts with the director had to do with art works housed in the library and the amount of money kept on-hand at the service desks. We believed that the Risk Assessment Office was primarily concerned with highly vulnerable programs such as the hospitals, pharmacies, athletics, the bookstore, and laboratories. The current emerging market downturn in economic powerhouses like China, has already negatively affected African economic growth. For resource-rich countries, it is a chance to improve their public investment management (PIM) system, which could help boost growth; although from experience drawn, Sub-Saharan oil resourced countries on average score lower in PIM, reflecting weak administrative capacity and low transparency in the use of public resources, especially at the project appraisal and evaluation stages of the PIM process. World oil price is a momentous determinant of global economic performance. In most cases, when oil prices skyrockets, it leads to a transfer of income from importing countries to exporting countries through trade shifts. The link between oil and inflation is mostly seen as being correlational. The direct relationship between oil and inflation was evident in the 1970’s nevertheless this relationship started to deteriorate after the 1980’s. Quite a cornucopia of researchers have made relentless inquiry on the macroeconomics impact of world oil price shocks and hikes on economic growth and consumer price inflation on importing countries.
