Global cities significantly shape our world by driving solutions across a range of challenges, including migration. A new Chicago Council report, A Global Welcome: Metro Chicago’s Approach to Immigrant Inclusion, provides an overview of greater Chicago’s immigrant community and highlights unique approaches taken to create a more inclusive city, while also emphasizing ways for Chicago and other cities to improve. The report is authored by Paul N. McDaniel, Associate Professor of Geography at Kennesaw State University, and Rob Paral, Nonresident Fellow at the Chicago Council.

Since 2016, the University of Mississippi Libraries has used ExLibris’ Summon for their discovery service, locally known as One Search. During the implementation, customizations for the search results page were determined by a committee of librarians. As new settings and customizations were implemented over the years, librarians began to question if certain settings were appropriate or if the patrons were actually using them. An IRB approved survey was distributed asking library patrons about their use of One Search while library employees were asked to answer how they perceived patrons used it. Going The Distance: Flipped Classrooms And The Research Appointment

This case study examines the use of online help guides and their potential impact in helping graduate distance students prepare for a scheduled meeting with a reference librarian. Students taking a dissertation planning course were surveyed to determine if a custom LibGuide and accompanying class assignments prepared them for in-depth research during their meeting with a reference librarian. Findings revealed that the majority of students believed that this flipped-classroom style approach had a positive impact on their research abilities and skills. Recommendations are provided for online help resources that can be adapted for use in online and hybrid courses.

Protests in response to Israeli military action in the Occupied Territories have a long history in Israel. While such opposition movements in many countries are comprised of civil society activists, the dynamics of protest differ in Israel because of the country’s mandatory military service. From the 1980s to present day, former and current Israeli soldiers have used a wide range of methods, tactics, and strategies to challenge Israeli military actions. Using insights from nonviolent resistance theories, we examine how the approaches and goals of military opposition groups in Israel have changed over the past decades. Comics, a type of multimodal narrative, have historically been used as platforms for political discourse. Through a combination of visual, verbal, and spatial devices, comics often explore issues of peace, conflict, and justice “from below,” in ways that reveal the complexities of narrative and identity. In doing so, they have the potential to interrogate grand narratives that often go undisrupted. Humanities scholars have long recognized the value of literary and visual arts in preparing students to engage the salient themes of peace education. As elections are increasingly plagued by malpractice, violence, systemic manipulation, and corruption, electoral administrators worldwide view Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based solutions as convenient and cost-effective in enhancing electoral integrity. ICT optimists contend that digitization enhances efficiency, speed, and detectability of fraud and manipulation, and thereby improves the quality of elections. ICT skeptics, however, argue that digitization reduces voters’ confidence in elections as these technologies are susceptible to new vulnerabilities such as hacking, breakdown, and programmatic manipulation. The coordination of communication and awareness efforts in the process of Information Security Incident Management (ISIM) has been identified as a critical means of enhancing information security protection in organizations. This paper aims to explore the nuances of organizational information security with respect to the coordination of communication and awareness efforts among organizational stakeholders towards achieving a shared, interactive, and participatory ISIM. According to the findings of the study in the organizations sampled, it has been identified that reporting, communication, and awareness efforts within ISIM were found to be largely uncoordinated.
