Fieldwork in communities affected by resource extraction is tricky and involves complex interactions between institutional networks, community histories, location of the resource, and researcher positionality (Jenkins et al. 2015). My research assessed risk perceptions regarding oil and gas development using Hydraulic Fracturing and Directional Drilling (HFDD), and factors contributing to levels of perceived risk. I employed an explanatory sequential mixed methods design (Wetherholt 2016) that used a combination of procedures. My “field”, Kolkata, India inspired my “work”, i.e., my research work. Before coming to the United States in 2017 for graduate school, I was associated with several queer organizations in Kolkata (also my hometown) and developed friendships and association which was the major motivation for my dissertation “SHAKTHI: Studying Healthcare Accessibility among Kothi, Transgender, and Hijra Individuals.” The word, SHAKTHI, in Sanskrit means “power” or “empowerment”. My dissertation is by and for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people, with a goal to empower them. This essay documents surviving attempted murder and gunshot wounds incurred during 1992 geographical f ieldwork in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan. Our project goal was to assess the potential for a Pamir National Park in this Central Asian terra incognita where the southernmost Soviet Union met the unruly frontier with Afghanistan and China. Our personnel included geographers and government officials from the Soviet Academy of Sciences, Tajik Academy of Sciences, Goscomproda (Tajik Ministry of Environment), and the NGO Tajik Socio-Ecological Union. The initial 1991 field season involved living in Moscow through the coup attempt that ultimately disbanded the Soviet Union. …

According to the SAGE Handbook of Fieldwork, “fieldwork” refers to primary research that occurs “in the field,” the “field” being a setting that is outside the controlled settings of the library or laboratory (McCall 2006, 2). It's Not Just What You Say: The Impact Of Message Tone On Intra-Party Endorsements, Tom Vizcarrondo, Milad Minooie

This study expands previous research on political endorsements by focusing on the tone of the endorsement, rather than the endorser or the presence/absence of any endorsement at all. Using a 2×2 experimental design and a sample of 906 registered voters from a midwestern U.S. state, this study measures the effect of positive and negative endorsements on the voter perceptions of the endorsee, endorser, and unendorsed candidate during a partisan primary election campaign. Results support the idea that positive endorsements generally improve voters’ attitudes toward the endorsee and the endorser and negative endorsements generally hurt voters’ perception of the unendorsed candidate. …

This article aims to present the results of a doctoral research on the personal and structural factors that prevent women, who have been victims of violence, from leaving the violent environment from which they come, generated within the framework of specialized shelters for women who have been subject to domestic violence in the state of Yucatán, Mexico. A sense of purpose is a central, self-organizing life aim that guides choices and behaviors (Lewis, 2020; Mcknight & Kashdan 2009). In older adulthood, having a sense of purpose is linked with positive health (Musich et al., 2018; Lewis & Hill, 2021). River cross-sections are often extracted using field surveys at measured intervals. This field-oriented approach allows for a tangible relationship between the data and its collector but at the expense of finance, time, labor, and potentially the environment. This qualitative case study investigates how faculty members in a Title I middle school engage in collaborative practices to enhance professional growth without formal professional learning. Framed within a descriptive lens (Merriam, 1998) and informed by Brown and Duguid's Community of Practice (CoP) framework (1991), the study addresses two research questions: (1) How do teachers collaborate to improve their practice outside formal professional learning? (2) In what ways do these methods reflect the elements of CoP: working, learning, and innovating? The evolutionary origins of uniquely human cognitive processes remain poorly understood. Comparative analysis between humans and great apes can help identify derived characteristics and extrapolate ecological conditions leading to the evolution of specifically human cognitive abilities. Internet use among individuals involved with gang activity has become increasingly prevalent in the last two decades. This usage goes beyond simply organizing or boasting about criminal activity. The dissertation explored the return migration experiences among first- and second-generation Haitian diaspora members in the United States. The study aimed to fill gaps in the existing literature and provide a deeper understanding of the individual experience of return migration through a social and cultural lens. While previous research has focused on the political and economic aspects of return migration, this study examined the personal narratives of return migrants. It explored the causes, impacts, and individual experiences of return migration. The concept of library anxiety was introduced by Constance Mellon in 1986. Since then, studies have attempted to shed light upon this phenomenon to mitigate the feelings of apprehension students may feel when utilizing the academic library space or when seeking the professional help of librarians. This literature review examines the literature and, specifically, discusses whether it is possible to configure the physical library space in a more inviting way. It highlights sociology of space theories as well as concepts behind the fast casual movement employed by the restaurant industry as possible routes to improvement.

The Royston Public Library has been awarded a prestigious $10,000 grant as part of the Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities initiative, spearheaded by the American Library Association (ALA). This grant aims to enhance accessibility and community engagement for individuals with disabilities in small and rural libraries. The Royston Library plans to host community conversations to gain direct patron input into the best use of these funds. Ideas include utilizing the grant to develop tailored programs, including Sensory Storytime sessions and Quieter Storytime sessions with interactive elements.
