This article uses semi-directive interviews of a dozen media actors in Burkina Faso to examine the transformations of print journalism in the digital age. It reveals that digital technology does not fundamentally change the structure of the field. It rather keeps it in a sort of “in-between” journalism where traditional media routines combine with an appropriation of innovative practices both in the production of information and in its dissemination. That takes place in spite of relative contained economic crisis that makes this hybrid model possible.

Usages De L’Application Mobile Whatsapp Et Mutations Radiophoniques En Afrique, Henri Assogba

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

Several radio stations on the African continent have been using or experimenting in recent years with the WhatsApp mobile application to gather and disseminate information. Knowing that voice exchange functionalities without the costs associated with conventional telephony are among those preferred by WhatsApp users in Africa, this study analyzes these uses of WhatsApp in relation to changes in the production and dissemination of radio content. The study is an illustration of the hybridization of the media system and shows that “traditional” mobile telephony is still popular with listeners in their on-air interventions.

Fact-checking has become an increasingly important practice, especially with the birth of the internet and social media. In Tunisia, the context of the 2019 presidential and legislative elections saw the birth of the Tunisia Check News platform managed by the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication, with the collaboration of the public media. In this article, we present the context of the emergence of this platform within the community of Tunisian journalists. Since major neoliberal financial reforms occurred during the 1980s and 1990s, labor unions’ membership numbers and political influence have waned. While this is true of labor unions in most countries, these changes are incredibly notable in the United States. Scholars from a multitude of disciplines and with varying critical lenses have attempted to understand this phenomenon, but some arguments seem much more convincing than others. In this thesis I wanted to explore the ways that masculinity has been written in history through the genre of fiction. The first chapter discusses traumatized white masculinity in Kurt Vonnegut's novel SlaughterHouse Five and Oliver Stone's film Born On The Fourth of July. The second chapter deals with the female Black experience in response to the white patriarchy in Toni Morrison's novel Home and HBO's television series LoveCraft Country. And finally chapter 3 deals with mythologized masculinity redeemed through violence in Martin Scorsese's film Taxi Driver and Frank Miller's comic book series The Dark Knight Returns. …

A large percentage of prisoners in the United States are suffering from a Substance Use Disorder (SUD), but many prisons across the country lack the proper resources to rehabilitate those with drug addictions. Incarcerated people with SUD face many dangerous and sometimes deadly consequences after release. My thesis addresses key associated questions: What role do prisons play in helping prisoners with SUD? And, how can they aid this population more effectively? When tourists vacation in Cuba, they might take walks on its warm beaches, take pictures of its colorful architecture, or enjoy rich Afro-Cuban culture. Parallel to these scenes is the people who work in Cuba’s tourism industry, supplying entertainment to tourists to consume during their stays in paradise. This paper discusses Cuba’s tourism industry during its “Special Period,”: a time in the 1990s when Cuba reintroduced the dollar into its economy and reopened its tourism industry. The reintroduction of the dollar created increased racial inequality, especially among Afro-Cuban women. This research examines the increase in racial inequality during the Special …
