Assessment Of The Fluoride Concentration In Drinking Water And Tea In The Arusha Region Of Tanzania, Sophia Bakar, David Kahler, Alanna Bachtlin, Kara Okular, Kathleen Glancey, Abbey Whitewood
Environmental Science Datasets
High fluoride concentrations in drinking water affect millions of people around the world; however, fluoride can come from several sources. The World Health Organization recommends a fluoride concentration in drinking water of no more than 1.5 mg/L; fluoride above this concentration can cause long-term problems known as fluorosis, such as mottled teeth and increased risk of dental caries, or skeletal deformities. Rural communities near Arusha, Tanzania have high fluoride concentrations in their water. Adults and children of the Arusha Region rely heavily on tea for daily water consumption, which has the benefit of disinfection by boiling. Researchers investigated water quality, …

This chapter introduces the structure of the government in the United States and the concept of “separation of powers" among the federal, state, and local governments. It introduces core legal principles from the U.S. Constitution that frame the authority of the government to enact and enforce laws to protect and promote the public's health. These Constitutional principles are essential for the health advocate and leader to understand because every federal, state, and local law must comply with them. The core principles include the enumerated powers of the federal government and the broad plenary powers of state and local governments—which we …

The methodology used to produce population estimates as of 4/1/2020 for the state at the block group level relies on data from the 2010 Census Summary File 1 (SF1), 2020 Census Apportionment Results, US Census partnership programs supporting the 2020 Census, 2020 Tiger/Line boundary files, 2015-2019 5-year American Community Survey (ACS) files, ESRI Updated Demographics vintage 2020, and estimates from the Portland State University Population Research Center and US Census Population Division.
The 2010 decennial census block file was the baseline for average household size, and counts of housing units and population by race in 2010. Block group or tract …

The Evaluation Of Usage Of Library Resources And Services: An Exclusive Study On Users Of Academic College Libraries, Prayangi Vishal Matonkar, Keshav R. Dhuri Dr
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Academic libraries play crucial role in enhancing teaching and research missions of their parent institutions. This paper shares findings of the study which investigated awareness and use of library resources. The main aim of this research study is to identify the use and usage of resources and services provided by the library. A well structured questionnaire was prepared on Google Forms to collect the data from users of six colleges from Goa. Total 360 questionnaires were sent to 60 students of each college under study and 300 filled questionnaires were received from the respondents. The study has revealed that highest …

The Balancing Act Is Magnified: U.S. Mothers’ Struggles Amidst A Pan, Grace Ellen Brannon, Molly Wiant Cummins

Successes are often noticed in reflection after an event; struggles are felt in the moment. When COVID-19 was recognized as a public health emergency in the United States (US), many mothers felt their struggles more acutely. Much of 2020 feels like a pressure cooker for mothers, where the steam valve does not fully relieve the mounting pressure they felt because of COVID-19. Most families are experiencing additional stress due to COVID-19, but in heterosexual couples, that work disproportionately falls to women, as they are spending, on average, fifteen hours more per week on education and household tasks (Cohen and Hsu). …

Family Communicative Environment’S Effects On Young Adults’ Social Norms About Limiting Alcohol: Examining The Mediating Effects Of Implicit Pri, Grace Ellen Brannon
Communication Faculty Publications
Alcohol usage among young adults remains a prominent public health concern. Communicating with family members about alcohol can positively influence young adults’ perceptions of social norms, yet the stigmatized nature of alcohol-related conversations in the family create a barrier to occurrence of these conversations. This study examines how young adults’ familial communication patterns impact their descriptive and injunctive social norms about alcohol, using Communication Privacy Management Theory as the theoretical framework. Specifically, this study seeks to understand how conversation orientation, conformity orientation, warm conformity orientation, and cold conformity orientation predicts two sets of social norms (descriptive and injunctive), and to …
