Samuel Webb was Silas Deane's private secretary, then First Liet. of Chester's company in American Revolution. In 1776 he was appointed Washington's private secretary and aide-de-camp. In 1777 he was captured at the Battle of Long Island and wasn't released until 3 years later.

In October of 1753, George Washington, a 21-year-old major in the Virginia militia, volunteered to carry a letter from the governor of Virginia to the French commander of the forts recently built on the headwaters of the Ohio River in northwestern Pennsylvania. Letter dated April 20, 1671 (10 2mo. 1617 Old Style) from Roger Longworth in Lancaster Castle to James Harrison. He mentions Thomas Bond receiving ten pounds and fifty shillings at Lancaster but the rest is not yet paid. Longworth and his fellow prisoners wrote to the judges for more information on when they will be called to court. Longworth also mentions travel plans—possibly to London—after he is released.

From 1656 through 1661, the Massachusetts Bay Colony experienced an “invasion” of Quaker missionaries, who were not deterred by the increasingly severe punishments enacted and inflicted by the colonial authorities.
