Persistence Of A Culture's Patterns In Prisons Of War, Anne Hoffman Senter

This study is an investigation of prisoner of war sociology, specifically that of Japanese-controlled prison camps in which American soldiers captured in the Philippine Islands in the spring of 1942 were confined for almost three and one-half years. It is an attempt to discover the informal social social structure obtaining in these camps and helps answer answer the question of what happened when the existing social structure of the army was torn down and the men were thrown into a life requiring a rebuilding and realignment of social relationships and values.

The general interest in this problem arose from observation of the behavior and attitude of the Spanish speaking people towards problems affecting them in the urban setting where the cultural tempo is set by a differing value and attitude system from their own. A Study Of Religious Drama As A Resource Of The Church, Illustrated By An Original Biblical Drama, Marien E. Griffith

The main purpose of this study is to determine the place of religious drama in the church. Data of information were secured from personal letters and interviews with pastors and lay-people in Omaha, Nebraska; Council Bluffs, Sioux City and Des Moines, Iowa; St. Louis, Missouri; Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota; Idaho Falls, Iowa; and Monrovia, California. A questionnaire was used as a guiding basis for the interviews. The case method and survey method were used. An original Biblical drama is presented to illustrate what the possibilities are in this field of activity.

The purpose of this study is to trace some of the changes in the Spanish-American family in Bernalillo County from 1915 through 1946. It is justified by the fact that culture changes of any kind taking place in a group are reflected in the family as the basic primary unit. This study specifically includes changes in the following: marriage age of Spanish Americans, type of marriage ceremony, inter-marriage with Anglos, family size, and divorce rate.

Stockton is a city suffering from the sudden realization that it is no longer a small farm town, end that in the process of becoming a moderate-sized city, a community faces inevitable growing pains.

The municipal recreation phase of city government well illustrates this fact. In Stockton today there is a small number of persons who come under the category, Basque. As the origin of the Basques and their language is as yet undetermined, it lends a somewhat mysterious air to them.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the Basques, more particularly the younger generation, are becoming assimilated into the community. Are they the Basque in their manner of living, or are they American?

During the last two years, the author in the course of fulfilling class requirements in the Department of Sociology made a series of investigations into the social, economic, and political aspects of several towns and villages in Utah and Idaho. As a result, an interest developed in the process of social change within the social structure. Therefore, as a thesis problem, a community study of a small Mormon village analyzing social change in the institutions and mores was selected.
