Persistence Of A Culture's Patterns In Prisons Of War, Anne Hoffman Senter
Sociology ETDs
This study is an investigation of prisoner of war sociology, specifically that of Japanese-controlled prison camps in which American soldiers captured in the Philippine Islands in the spring of 1942 were confined for almost three and one-half years. It is an attempt to discover the informal social social structure obtaining in these camps and helps answer answer the question of what happened when the existing social structure of the army was torn down and the men were thrown into a life requiring a rebuilding and realignment of social relationships and values.

A Sociological Study Of Part Time Employment In The Senior High Schools Of Louisville, Kentucky., Thomas Hoskins Kettig
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Today with the advent of an ever increasing industrialization, the importance of developing the skill, strength, and knowledge of the young people to meet the new age is recognized as never before. Not only must the fundamentalism of traditional education be revised in terms of a more progressive education, but also the practical, non-academic courses should be given more consideration. In this thesis I have attempted to analyze one particularly important aspect of the problem of youth and employment. I have presented here a sociological analysis of part-time employment in the Louisville, Kentucky Senior High schools. It was my intention …

Public Recreation In Logan, Utah, 1946: An Appraisal, Beatrice J. Carroll
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Modern writers see varied values in recreation. The necessity for recreation in a machine age has become widely recognized. Its many-sided contribution to good living is being clarified by a constangly increasing member of writers--sociologists, educators, physicians, philosophers, etc. It seams appropriate to this inquiry to consider what some of these writers say.
Child Labor In Kansas, William H. Cape
Child Labor In Kansas, William H. Cape
Master's Theses
The problem of child labor in Kansas is being recognized more and more by the people and by the legislature . Child labor has never assumed formidable proportions in this state, however young people need protection regardless of the number employed. This particular age group has never been a great employment problem, perhaps the principal reason being t hat Kansas is primarily an agricultural state . The possibilities that t he stat e will become an industrial and manufacturing 'stat e are excellent and such a change would, no doubt, bring an increase in the number of children employed unless …

The purpose of this study is to trace some of the changes in the Spanish-American family in Bernalillo County from 1915 through 1946. This study specifically includes changes in the following: marriage age of Spanish Americans, type of marriage ceremony, inter-marriage with Anglos, family size, and divorce rate.

A Study Of The Development Of The Recreation Department Of Stockton, California, Margaret Fitzgerald Coston
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Stockton is a city suffering from the sudden realization that it is no longer a small farm town, end that in the process of becoming a moderate-sized city, a community faces inevitable growing pains.
The municipal recreation phase of city government well illustrates this fact. Because of the great need for expansion in this field, and because the city is now just beginning to rise to meet the occasion, a study of the Recreational Department and the program of the Metropolitan Recreation Commission in Stockton City Government and San Joaquin County, is a particularly interesting activity.
In contrast to many …
