Rectangular concrete-filled double steel tubular (CFDST) columns have increasingly been utilized in high-rise buildings to support heavy loads. However, the responses of eccentrically loaded rectangular CFDST short columns have rarely been studied. This paper reports experimental and numerical investigations into the behavior of rectangular thin-walled short CFDST columns composed of a rectangular inner steel tube loaded eccentrically. Tests on rectangular and square CFDST short columns under eccentric loading and axial loading were carried out to examine their responses to various design parameters, including the cross-sectional dimensions, loading eccentricity, and width-to-thickness ratios of the external and internal tubes. Australian coal mines currently use gas content to assess outburst risk. The gas content threshold values for each mine are indirectly determined from measurement of gas volume liberated from 150 g coal samples during Q3 residual gas content testing. It has been more than twenty (20) years since this method, known as DRI900, was presented to the Australian coal industry, and in that time there have been significant changes in mining conditions and the outburst threshold limits used at the benchmark Bulli seam mines.Current coal mining legislation in both Queensland [7] and New South Wales [6] provide little guidance in …

Voltage unbalance (VU) management in power systems essentially involves two major aspects: VU emission allocation at the pre-connection stage and compliance assessment at the post-connection stage of installations. This is a summary and a review paper on the recent investigations completed in relation to VU emission assessment techniques which provide further contributions to the improvement of IEC Technical Report IEC/TR61000-3-13:2008. Generalised approaches developed for the classification of different sources of unbalance at the point of evaluation (covering both radial and interconnected networks) and the evaluation of their individual contributions giving emphasis to the discrimination between customer and network responsibility on …

The mining industry, minerals processing, transport and export infrastructure sectors are facing increasingly difficult challenges in the near future, such as sustainable development and operation (e.g. environmental emissions, social/ cultural impacts, economics). This paper describes some of the new technologies that are being researched, developed and employed to minimise dust emissions by addressing dustability and dust generation mechanisms. It also presents some results from the research being undertaken on the measurement of the dustiness of bulk materials.
