This article describes the media wall exhibit program used to showcase and promote the work of Yale faculty, researchers, academic units, and university-sponsored community programs. With the mandate to combine two traditional, academic branch libraries and astatistical lab, designing a new hybrid service model was crucial. Planners reviewed dataabout students’ use of space, visited innovative library sites, and researched architectural features that could be included to create a vital,aesthetically pleasing collaborative space forthe 21st century. Purpose – In an educational world with increasing internationalization, digitization, assessment and financial justification, US institutions, especially academic libraries, must justify each new project. Institutional Repositories (IRs) are no exception. The authors attempt to identify factors that might affect the international usage of US IRs as part of assessment efforts to determine an IR's return-on-investment. Design/methodology/approach – A survey was disseminated to IR administrators asking for demographic information, international usage counts for website hits and downloads, and any internationalization efforts connected to the IR in order to determine any influencing factors on an IR's international usage. Over the past year, the University of Rhode Island (URI) has taken some steps towards shifting the default to Open Access for both faculty scholarship and student work. First and foremost, in March 2013, the URI Faculty Senate passed a Harvard-style Open Access mandate. And in February 2013, the Library and the Graduate School began making electronic dissertations and theses openly available through URI’s institutional repository. In this presentation, we will define Open Access policies and discuss why they are important. We will give an overview of our experiences with Open Access advocacy, implementation of policies, and next steps.
