The Entrepreneurial Ecosystem In Egypt: A Gendered Perspective, Hanan Khayal

This study aims to investigate the Egyptian entrepreneurial ecosystem from a gendered perspective, focusing on women entrepreneurs and experts’ views of the ecosystem and its effect on women entrepreneurs and their ventures. The study uses a qualitative approach incorporating semi-structured interviews with fourteen women entrepreneurs and experts with long experience in the field of entrepreneurship. The analysis shows that the pillars of the ecosystem namely policy, culture, finance, education and training, and networking have impactful influences on women entrepreneurs in Egypt, affecting their entrepreneurial journey across the different levels of venturing. This thesis investigates how integrated leadership mediated by organizational structure, affects organizational performance in three Egyptian public sector institutions. The aim of this research is to identify the key challenges in these three areas (leadership, organizational structure and performance) and provide recommendations for improvement. The study adopts a mixed method approach, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis. The qualitative element consisted of in-depth interviews of organizational leaders and participant observation. Many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Egypt offer women employment and entrepreneurship programs and services. These interventions are envisioned to play a significant role in helping women become economically independent and overcome some of the constraints they face.
