Power Game, Stockholm Pathogen, Tyranny And The Disintegration Of The Sudanese Nation, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Power Game, Stockholm Pathogen, Tyranny And The Disintegration Of The Sudanese Nation, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
The present paper is part of unpublished book divided into three interrelated manuscripts that analyze the collapse of the Sudan. The current paper suggests that the national salvation coup de etat power-overtaking and the creation of the NCP (National Congress Party) dominated Sudan only a process similar to Pathogenic Stockholm Syndrome. That conforms with what Gramsci suggests as an inevitable methodology to have sustainable hegemony over a whole nation for a prolonged time. Religious dogma was a permeation throughout society of an entire system of values, attitudes, beliefs and morality that have the effect of supporting the status quo in …

On Tyranny And Economic Greed: The Ncp And The Disintegration Of The Sudanese Nation, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
The present paper is part of unpublished book divided into three interrelated manuscripts that analyze the collapse of the Sudan. The current paper conclude that the decision of the International Criminal Court to arrest President Bashir triggered a process for the disintegration of an unprecedented tyrannical regime that embezzled the Sudanese nation under the pretext of imposing Islamic Sharia Laws. However, there is a pronounced prominent conflict manifested here which is the question whether it was a real Islamic laws, or was it only a powerful tool to control the country. The dogma imposed hegemonic regime that extracted all economic …

How Much Does A Belief Cost?: Revisiting The Marketplace Of Ideas, Gregory Brazeal
How Much Does A Belief Cost?: Revisiting The Marketplace Of Ideas, Gregory Brazeal
Gregory Brazeal
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. is often credited with creating the metaphor of “the marketplace of ideas,” though he did not use the exact phrase and his argument for free speech was not based on distinctively economic reasoning. Truly economic investigations of the marketplace of ideas have progressed in step with developments and trends in the law and economics literature. These investigations have tended to be one-sided, with writers focusing primarily either on the production of ideas (for example, Posner) or their consumption (for example, behavioral law and economics), without considering in depth how producers and consumers interact. This may …

Employed Unemployed? On Shadow Employment In Transition, Joanna Tyrowicz, Stanisław Cichocki
Joanna Tyrowicz
Unregistered employment poses two types of challenges to the researchers: (i) reliably evaluating the wage dierential between formally and informally employed and (ii) accounting for the push and pull factors in general and the eects of business cycle in particular. We address the former with the use of propensity score matching and analyse the evolution of the estimated average compensations and the dierentials with reference to GDP and unemployment fluctuations. Using 13 years of quarterly labour force survey data from Poland on de iure unemployed but de facto employed individuals we nd, that in-the-shadow compensations tend to be higher and …
Circular Migration: A Triple Win Or A Dead End, Piyasiri Wickramasekara
Circular Migration: A Triple Win Or A Dead End, Piyasiri Wickramasekara
PIYASIRI WICKRAMASEKARA
In recent years circular migration has been promoted in international circles as a triple win solution, bringing benefits to destination countries, origin countries and migrant workers themselves – and a major mechanism to reap development benefits of labour migration. This paper reviews issues relating to the conceptual basis of circular migration, the claimed benefits of circular migration, and its wider implications for migrant rights and protection, in particular those relating to low skilled workers. The paper distinguishes between ‘Spontaneous circular migration’ and ‘managed’ or ‘regulated’ circular migration programmes. Recent years have seen increasing interest in these managed programmes as a …

Assessment Of The Foreign Non-Government Organizations' Role In Sudan, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
The study presented reviews activities of NGOs in Sudan. That was a disputable issue that resulted in a mass expulsion of many in 2009. However¸ there were precedents of such expulsions in previous and following years. The paper discusses humanitarian work in Sudan, positive and negative sides. Reasons are that part of the hypothetical framework here is that their activities in the country are indispensible. The country still faces many humanitarian suffering in most of its regions and international aid is direly required. Impacts Of Tribal And Economic Factors On Civil Conflict Between North And South Sudan, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Impacts Of Tribal And Economic Factors On Civil Conflict Between North And South Sudan, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
The crisis of Greater Darfur Region of Sudan extends to other regions as the South Sudan prepares for secession next July 2011. In the past eight years Sudan's crisis in Darfur was amplified by global news media all over the world. Civil conflict erupted, developed into armed rebellions and open uncontrolled war that enveloped the whole region. The current inflamed undecided and unmarked future borders between the south and north are also facing growing tensions. In this current paper we present some information on what we see as the seeds of conflicts with complicated tribal structures in both sides and …
Optimization Of Hydroelectric Power Generation, Case Study Of Roseires Dam In Sudan, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Optimization Of Hydroelectric Power Generation, Case Study Of Roseires Dam In Sudan, Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Professor Issam A.W. Mohamed
Water reservoirs are large pools of water created stream or river catchment's areas and torrential rains and for storing water for use in many ways, and perhaps electric power generation is one of the most important uses of these reservoirs and for agriculture. That is extremely beneficial considering a rare and limited economic resources. Applied stochastic processes model has been applied in the work of Roseires dam, in order to develop a system to generate the highest possible power in the resources available. The current paper aims to apply another model, which is a dynamic programming model to verify the …

The Maritime Potential Of Asean Economies, Hans-Dieter Evers, Mhd Azhari-Karim
Hans-Dieter Evers
Countries may utilize a long coastline in relation to their landmass as a resource to develop their maritime conomy. This paper argues that ASEAN countries differ in utilizing their maritime potential. As a basis for further comparative studies the Center for Policy Research and International Studies (CenPRIS) in Penang developed a set of indicators to measure the maritime potential of nations, the state of their maritime industries, and the degree to which the maritime potential has actually been utilized. Using the CenPRIS Ocean Index (COI) shows that Brunei and the Philippines have underutilized their maritime potentials, whereas Singapore and Thailand …
Spatial Effects In Energy-Efficient Residential Hvac Technology Adoption, Douglas S. Noonan, Lin-Han Chiang Hsieh, Daniel Matisoff
Spatial Effects In Energy-Efficient Residential Hvac Technology Adoption, Douglas S. Noonan, Lin-Han Chiang Hsieh, Daniel Matisoff
Douglas S. Noonan
This study identifies the factors that affect the adoption behaviors for residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including spatial effects and other contextual characteristics. This study draws on an original data source of detailed single-family house sale records in the Greater Chicago area, spanning from 1992 to 2004. The data are analyzed at the block-group level to focus on neighborhood-level adoption patterns and highlight neighbor effects. Using spatial lag regression models, we show that spatial dependence or “contagion” exists for neighborhood adoption of energy-efficient HVACs. This result has significant implications from a policy perspective. According to our estimation …
