Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will release an adapted version of the opera Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini in an online, pre-recorded format beginning Sunday, Jan. 31, which can be viewed for free at obu.edu/opera2021.

While typically a fall production, Ouachita’s opera had to be reimagined for both the cast and audiences due to COVID-19. Students and faculty began preparing in Spring 2020 and finished recording in late Fall 2020. Editing and post production then began and continued through January 2021.

Secrecy and Society

All teaching has something to do with transmission of hidden knowledge, secrecy, and revelation. But the teaching of secrecy itself faces particular challenges. Drawing on the authors’ experiences teaching secrecy-themed seminars to first-year university students, this paper pinpoints four such challenges: how to determine the range of phenomena to cover in a short course, how to prevent excessive interpretation of secrets, how to encourage students to take a fun topic with seriousness, and how to engage students in their own practices of secrecy. Due to the limited availability of standardized testing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cedarville will not require a standardized test score for admission for students in grades 7-12 who are applying to take College Now (dual enrollment) courses through spring 2023. Cedarville also participates in the state’s College Credit Plus program, which provides funding for Ohio students to take college courses, and the state affirmed the value of test optional flexibility in admission.

Introduction: The primary objective was to investigate the effectiveness of a fully staffed electronic communication system (1Connect) in delivering timely critical imaging results and incidental findings. The secondary objective was to evaluate the financial impact of this system on a radiology practice.

Methods: From January 2014 through June 2016, the 1Connect database was retrospectively reviewed and sorted by category of submission type: Critical (1-hour communication time), STAT (2 hours), or Unexpected finding (3 business days). Encouraging environmental awareness and engagement on Marshall University’s campus is a fundamental goal of the institution’s Sustainability Department. In working with the department, this study sought to describe the student body’s perceptions, opinions, and rates of environmentally friendly behaviors on campus. In addition to describing the desired population, analysis was conducted to identify what factors influence pro-environmental behaviors within students to produce more effective messaging and engagement strategies for the Sustainability Department. Through the lens of the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), individual action is produced by behavioral intent, influenced by an individual’s values, norms, and perceived situational control. These proceedings are a representative sample of the presentations given by professional practitioners and academic scholars at the 2021 International Crisis and Risk Communication Conference (ICRCC) held virtually March 8-10, 2021.
