The Decline In Child Sexual Abuse Cases., Lisa M. Jones, David Finkelhor
The Decline In Child Sexual Abuse Cases., Lisa M. Jones, David Finkelhor
Crimes Against Children Research Center
Of all crimes against children, sexual abuse has arguably captured the greatest share of attention from child advocates, professionals, policymakers, and the general public. During the 1980’s, increasing numbers of victims were identified each year (American Association for the Protection of Children, 1988) and concerns about this crime intensified. However, a dramatic shift in child sexual abuse trends has occurred. Data from child protective services (CPS) agencies across the country indicate that the increases of the 1980’s were followed by an extensive period of marked declines in the 1990’s. Deviant Homicides: An Empirical Analysis Of Deviant Homicides In Chicago, Sean P. Varano, Jeffrey Michael Cancino
Deviant Homicides: An Empirical Analysis Of Deviant Homicides In Chicago, Sean P. Varano, Jeffrey Michael Cancino
Justice Studies Faculty Publications

Results of a logistic regression analysis support the hypothesis that the likelihood of deviant circumstances is significantly greater when homicides involve Hispanics, …

The Police Officer As Survivor: The Psychological Impact Of Exposure To Death In Contemporary Urban Policing, Vincent E. Henry
The Police Officer As Survivor: The Psychological Impact Of Exposure To Death In Contemporary Urban Policing, Vincent E. Henry
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
All human encounters with death, whether they involve a casual contact with the death of another person or the realistic threat of one's own demise, have important psychological consequences that result in new modes of adaptation, thought and feeling. In the course of their duties, contemporary urban police officers frequently encounter the deaths of others and some participate in mortal combat situations that credibly threaten their own lives. The psychological dimensions of police officers' professional exposures to the deaths of others are to a large extent shaped by the specific duties and responsibilities prescribed by their formal task environment, while …
