Sensational Versus Conservative Makeup In Newpapers, Ruth Elizabeth O'Brien
Sensational Versus Conservative Makeup In Newpapers, Ruth Elizabeth O'Brien
Bachelors’ Theses
Sensational and conservative newspaper makeup presents a problem of vital interest to the age we are living. We are faced with the difficulty of placing before the public, stalking headlines; or on the contrary merely a cut and dried statement of facts. Of these two the former would result in the "headline readers"; while the latter would result in the well read public - those who would read the papers at all.

Appropriate Copy -- A Necessity Of Good Advertising, Marion Purtell
Bachelors’ Theses
One word may make or mar an advertisement- such is the power of the written word, such the effect of the word on the human mind that often between the use of the correct appropriate, word and the ill-chosen carelessly- written word there rests the difference between the making of a sale and the losing of a customer.

Catholic Newspapers, To Succeed Must Improve, Eunice Allene Murphy
Bachelors’ Theses
Has the Catholic press succeeded? Has it obtained the results hoped for when it was established? Undoubtedly, in some countries, it has accomplished what it attempted. But has the Clerical press been successful in the United States where journalism, in general, has reached the highest development

The Era Of Metternich, Mary Jeanne Mannix
Bachelors’ Theses
When the French people, in 1789, burst out in fury against the existing order of things, in what is known as the French Revolution; when they carelessly flung crowned and noble heads hither and yon, and in their rebellious passion thoroughly wrecked the old social, religious, and political systems, substituting "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" for them, all Europe looked on, horrified and amazed. Her, hitherto, complacently "divine" monarchs plucked neverously [sic] at their crowns, and deadly terror hung onto their thrones.

Advertising: A Necessity To Railroad Progress, Arabella Warren
Bachelors’ Theses
The railroads of the United States, foremost in the internal development of the country, have had to overcome a greater sentiment of animosity on the part of the public than have any other large corporations. They have combated this commercial opposition through the channels of advertising and publicity which have led them out into the realms of Prosperity.

Women In George Eliot's Novels, Rose G. Biller
Bachelors’ Theses
It is given to us, to aid our inadequate intellects, that we may understand not only by simple comprehension of a statement of fact, but by the process of comparison and contrast. Thus, to plumb the depths of George Eliot's peculiar greatness, we compare and contrast her to Charles Dickens. She is everything that he is not. Whereas he had the utmost power of rendering the external traits of people, she had the utmost power of rendering their internal traits, their psychological characters, their conceptions of life, and their emotions. Charles Dickens takes the human creature and portrays his behavior; …

The Ethics Of A Newspaper, Joseph A. Hussa
The Ethics Of A Newspaper, Joseph A. Hussa
Bachelors’ Theses
In writing this thesis, it shall not be our purpose to set up a list of rules for the editor or reporter, there are plenty such prepared by able journalists, but to discover and examine those ethical principles which underlie the publishing of news as it is ordinarily done, through the newspapers. Every journalist worthy of the name is guided by a set of rules which he had drawn up for himself or his employer has set up for him. Generally it is a set of working rules with especial attention to the business side of journalism, but the ethics …
The Trade Press As An Advertising Medium, Edwin J. Nally
The Trade Press As An Advertising Medium, Edwin J. Nally
Bachelors’ Theses
"Good advertising consists in making a favorable impression on a possible customer."
That the above statement or definition is true the majority of modern business men will agree, but as to the means or media of reaching the possible customer they will disagree. There are those who claim that this or that particular media is the best and most effective means of reaching a certain clientele or market, and there are almost as many more who will claim that one of the other mediums is more effective.
