The Effects Of Locus Of Control On Performance In Self-Directed Study, Jane Vaughn Apr 1975

The Effects Of Locus Of Control On Performance In Self-Directed Study, Jane Vaughn

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

A sample was taken from a self-directed statistics/experimental psychology class to investigate the relationship between locus of control orientation of the students and their academic performance. Self-directed study was defined as student oriented learning with few lectures and the use of contingency points (points earned for work completed) as reinforcement for completing work packets and projects. (The null hypothesis was that there is no relationship between grades and locus of control in the self-directed class.) It was found that internals progress through a self-directed class setting at a significantly faster rate than do externals.

The History Of Men's Intercollegiate Swimming At Old Dominion University 1936-1975, William B. Baylor Jr. Apr 1975

The History Of Men's Intercollegiate Swimming At Old Dominion University 1936-1975, William B. Baylor Jr.

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Theses & Dissertations

In this paper I have undertaken the task of compiling a history of the men's intercollegiate swimming teams of Old Dominion University. Swimming has been and still is a poorly publicized varsity sport at Old Dominion University. The many hours of grueling practice the swimmers endure and the fine individual efforts put forth in the meets are seldom topics on campus or in the community. As a swimmer for four years at Old Dominion University I was always disturbed by the apathy toward intercollegiate swimming. I feel as though the swimmers past, present, and future deserve some recognition and I …

The Leadership Role Of The Principal In The Development Of The Elementary School Library Or Library Media Center, Dorothy J. Sutton

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to discover the extent and nature of the leadership role of the elementary school principal in the development of school library programs. A review of the literature revealed general agreement that the principal should assume a leadership role in the development of the school library, and is in a strategic position to do so. Questionnaires were sent to ninety-one elementary principals in the following countries of Southeast Kansas: Allen, Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Mongomery, Neosho, Wilson, and Woodson; seventy-three were returned. According to answers received on the questionnaire, elementary principals in Southeast Kansas do …

The Political Economy Of Admissions, Roger A. Lohmann Mar 1975

The Political Economy Of Admissions, Roger A. Lohmann

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

A conceptual model of graduate social work admissions highlighting the societal implications of admission decisions is set out in this paper. Admissions, it is argued, can be viewed as a resource allocation process in which the distribution of various resources – goods and services, status, authority and professional autonomy – is altered. The authoritative allocation of status within the status economy of the profession is set forth and defended as the key allocation dimension of admissions processes.
