The educable cerebral palsied child possesses with his disability many problems. His place in the spectrum of the community is primarily determinant upon his personal adjustment, social adjustment, and vocational adjustment. The research of literature will clarify these functions in his growth and development process. As a vocational rehabilitation counselor, this author found so many handicapped individuals, particularly the cerebral palsied, come to the Vocational Rehabilitation Commission in quite a dilemma. They are unprepared vocationally, they lack personal and social skills and thus create within the counselor the question of feasibility for services based upon potential to enter into the …

The Paper Repertoire Of The Students In One Elementary School, Ruby Rufty

This collection project is concerned with traditional paper objects made by students in fifteen classes in one elementary school in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Chapter I describes the school and classroom environments and the procedures followed during the collection project. Chapter II differentiates between the play and ornamental items collected, describes the different items and their variants made by the students, and attempts to show what persons (relatives, teachers, other children) or other factors (mass media, the students' environment) affected the paper items made by students. An Approach To Meeting The Educational Needs Of A Select Group Of Migrant Children, Ruth G. Cornelius

Children in grades one through six who were identified as children from migrant agricultural families in a specific country in South Central Kentucky were compared to non-migrant children in the same specific county. A determination of the educational needs of these migrant children was made by a comparison of their standardized test scores to similar test scores of children from non-migrant families in the areas of Reading, Math, AND Total Battery scores. Resultant data from the test scores indicated that migrant children generally do not have achieve as high academically in the areas tested as do children from non-migrant families. …

A Hands-On Museum For Children, Stephanie Townsend

This paper concerns itself with the preparation for the development of a children's hands-on museum. Included is a definition of such a museum, a rationale for this type of museum, organizational considerations of a community museum, four exhibits intended to stimulate and guide children's cognitive processes, and a brief summation. The rationale for this children's museum is derived primarily from Piaget's theory of cognitive developmental psychology. Thus, the exhibits are exemplars of Piagetian curriculum. The organization section emphasizes Guthe's philosophy concerning museum organization.

The purpose of this study was to determine sentiments toward school expressed by ninth grade students and to further determine whether there were significances of differences in school sentiments expressed between Chicano and Anglo students and between male and female students. The School Sentiment Index, Secondary measured school sentiment by’ 83 items arranged into the following subscales: Mode of Instruction, Authority and Control, Interpersonal Relationships, Learning, School Social Structure and Climate, Peer, and General School Attitude. The instrument was administered to 402 subjects composed of 200 females and 202 males. This population included 313 Anglos, 79 Chicanos, 8 Blacks, and …

The Effects Of Facial Characteristics & Attitudes Upon Initial Interpersonal Attraction, Henry Ackerman

Two groups of males were utilized to examine the causal effect of facial characteristics and attitudes upon initial interpersonal attraction. The two groups were given a booklet in which photographs and attitude statements were paired in various combinations. One group of males was given the booklet with photographs of females non-randomly assigned; while the other group of males was given the booklet with photographs of females randomly assigned. The major finding of the Present study was that facial characteristics were more causal in predicting initial interpersonal attraction than were attitudes.
