Utilization Of Educational Television In Iowa's Elementary Schools, Jane Barker
Utilization Of Educational Television In Iowa's Elementary Schools, Jane Barker
Graduate Research Papers
In today;'s fast-paced world where messages conveyed through many forms of media, television as a form of entertainment has enjoyed much popularity. It has grown in recent years as a method of instruction in the school. The success of "Sesame Street" has powerfully demonstrated the potential of instruction through entertainment.
Television can be used effectively for learning, especially if used regularly. Kelly (1964) has shown that when television is used regularly as a source of instruction in the form of lectures and demonstrations, students do as well and sometimes significantly better on tests than when it is not used regularly. …

A Critique Of Language Learning And Theory In The Audio-Lingual Method Of Teaching English As A Foreign Language, Stephen Gregory Hanchey
A Critique Of Language Learning And Theory In The Audio-Lingual Method Of Teaching English As A Foreign Language, Stephen Gregory Hanchey
MA TESOL Collection
In this paper I investigate the claims on which many present ESL methods are based and examine them in view of recent developments in both learning theory and linguistics. There are reasons to think that the audio-lingual method is grounded in inadequate theories of learning and linguistics; if so, this warrants experiments in new methods and re-examination of such currently acceptable teaching methods as repetition, imitation, and pattern practice. In particular, I examine the practices of the audiolingual method which are based on behaviorist and structural linguistic theories, especially those practices which are extensions of theories about child language acquisition, …

The purpose of this study is threefold. The third purpose is to find out if the younger children have a greater growth toward positive self concept than the older children.
Self-Monitoring And Self-Reinforcement Applied To Junior College Study Behavior, Thomas A. Cesa
Self-Monitoring And Self-Reinforcement Applied To Junior College Study Behavior, Thomas A. Cesa
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Although previous research has shown the efficacy of self-control techniques such as self-monitoring and self-reinforcement in changing study behavior, the adequacy of the experimental procedures utilized in many studies may be questioned. This experiment re-examined the effects these operant conditioning procedures had on the study behavior of junior college evening students by using three groups of subjects exposed to different combinations of self-control techniques.
Control Group subjects recorded their new thoughts (ideas relating the course material to their everyday lives) in an attempt to control for the effects of novel procedures, motivation and other non-specific variables. Self-Monitoring Group subjects complied …
