The Short-Run Economic Impact Of Iranian Land Reform (1962-1972), Nasser Sherafat Apr 1974

The Short-Run Economic Impact Of Iranian Land Reform (1962-1972), Nasser Sherafat

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Under the traditional land system in Iran there was little possibility for an increase in the agricultural output or a raise in the standard of living for the rural population; the land reform of 1962 brought change in the land ownership and in water rights. A ten-year period of the land reform may be divided into two separate phases: the first, the land reform of 1962-68 and the second, land reform corelated with agrarian reform 1968-72. Phase one established some social and economic independency for Iranian farmers, but since the technology applied by farmers did not change, the agricultural output …

New Mexico Manpower Review, Employment Security Commission Of New Mexico

Historic Publications

The New Mexico Manpower Review was prepared by the Research and Statistics section for the Employment Security Commission of New Mexico for February of 1974. It is a report on the state's employment and economic activity; unemployment benefits rose in February by an unusually high amount, but substantial increases in the labor force helped to offset a high unemployment rate. Non-agricultural industries experienced job increases that were consistent with seasonal trends and the mining industry continued with strong growth (1,000 jobs added within a year and 100 within the month).

The Effectiveness Of Induced Location Of Manufacturing Industry As A Means Of Fostering Sustained Economic Growth In Less Developed Regions Of Oregon, Leland F. Smith

Dissertations and Theses

The subject of this thesis was chosen from both a professional and an academic interest in the economic development of Oregon. Prompted by proposals made to the Oregon Legislature to initiate various forms of industrial subsidy programs to disperse economic growth and population away from congested areas, this research effort seeks to provide an evaluative analysis of the effectiveness of subsidy techniques in influencing industrial location and stimulating a sustained growth process in less developed areas.

Research was undertaken in two primary subjects: 1) theory of regional economic development and the effects of subsidies on the growth process; and 2) …

The Walrasian And Von Neumann Equilibria: A Comparison, Jerzy Los, Maria Wycech-Los Mar 1974

The Walrasian And Von Neumann Equilibria: A Comparison, Jerzy Los, Maria Wycech-Los

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

The two economic concepts mentioned in the title deal with different features of an economy, the first with the distribution of produced goods between consumers according to their preferences, the second with the growth of the economy through “production of commodities by means of commodities” (Sraffa), leaving the mechanism of consumption almost completely aside. It seems interesting that in spite of these differences many similarities between the models can be found and that the von Neumann model can be adjusted to account for the preferences of consumers. This seems to be the main result of the paper.

Natural Disasters: Some Empirical And Economic Considerations, G. Thomas Sav

Economics Faculty Publications

Losses resulting from hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and tornadoes are examined. The data will help individuals, communities, and the Federal government make better decisions as to how and what extent protection against disasters should be provided. The application of benefit-cost analysis for choosing the optimal level of protection against disasters is also discussed. Recommendations are made for further research in determining the economic feasibility of various techniques designed to mitigate the losses from disasters.
