The Economic Impact Of Proposed Air Quality Control Regulations On The New Mexico Potash Producers, University Of New Mexico Bureau Of Business And Economic Research
The Economic Impact Of Proposed Air Quality Control Regulations On The New Mexico Potash Producers, University Of New Mexico Bureau Of Business And Economic Research
BBER Publications
This report evaluates the economic and financial impact of proposed air quality control regulations on seven New Mexico potash producers. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the study analyzes the global and domestic potash markets alongside company-specific financial data, concluding that the compliance costs—ranging from $0.09 to $0.74 per capacity ton—will not cause any local producer to reduce or suspend operations due to strong corporate backings and a favorable world price outlook.

The Economic Impact Of Proposed Air Quality Control Regulations On The New Mexico Potash Producers, University Of New Mexico Bureau Of Business And Economic Research
BBER Publications
This report examines the macroeconomic and financial impact of proposed air quality particulate emission regulations on seven prominent potash production operations in southeastern New Mexico. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the analysis establishes that compliance costs—ranging from $0.09 to $0.74 per capacity ton—will not cause local operators to suspend or reduce production due to robust global demand, a rising trend in real potash prices, and the backing of well-capitalized parent corporations.
How To Control Inflation, Murray L. Weidenbaum
How To Control Inflation, Murray L. Weidenbaum
Murray Weidenbaum Publications
Government contributes to rising inflation because of large budget deficits, increases in the money supply, and needlessly costly regulations. In order to reduce inflation, Americans need to understand the problem of big government, analyze methods of dealing with the problem, and finding the best way to proceed.

The Effect Of Crude Oil Prices On The Output Composition Of Refined Petroleum Products, Angelos Pagoulatos, David L. Debertin, Emilio Pagoulatos
The Effect Of Crude Oil Prices On The Output Composition Of Refined Petroleum Products, Angelos Pagoulatos, David L. Debertin, Emilio Pagoulatos
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
In this study the crude petroleum market is linked to the market of refined petroleum products through a set of technological relationships. An econometric study is used to quantify the existing relevant variables. The price equations for each refined product are used to derive estimates of elasticities with respect to quantity supplied, price of domestic crude oil and price of imports.

Impacts Of Energy Price Increases On Fertilizer Use And Crop Acreages, David L. Debertin, Angelos Pagoulatos, Fred O. Boadu
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
This paper examines the impacts of energy price increases of the use of fertilizer and the allocation of crop acreages between corn and soybeans. Regression analysis is used to estimate yield responses to alternative fertilization levels. A Linear Programming was used to allocate crop acreages under alternative assumptions with regard to fertilizer prices and yield responses.
Cost Accounting Regulations In Oil And Gas Industries, Lakshmi U. Tatikonda, Rao J. Tatikonda
Cost Accounting Regulations In Oil And Gas Industries, Lakshmi U. Tatikonda, Rao J. Tatikonda
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
The cost accounting methods that are currently used in the oil and gas Industry are very diverse. Since the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo, increased attention was given to this issue, which resulted in the issuance of SFAS-19 by the FA SB and the SEC’s attempt to develop a new accounting method based on the value of their reserves. The pros and cons of the existing methods are discussed. Also discussed is the need for a uniform accounting procedure.

The Advantages Of Local Extremes Of Systems When Considering Energy Supply Trends Toward Size And Complexity, Harold A. Kurstedt Jr., Arthur M. Squires, William A. Kramer
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Recent discussions of new energy sources, including some debate concerning the relative merits of a number of approaches, reflect an emerging trend toward extremes in size and complexity of sources. This trend is justified as a fundamental premise for future energy development. The trend is related to similar trends in commerce, business, medical service, and transportation. The recent sharp increases in marginal energy costs, along with governmental intervention in the energy scene, are accelerating a focus on the concept of an energy park, at one extreme, and on small locally-controlled sources of energy, at the other A key to successful …

Input-Output Analysis Of Industrial Energy Consumption: Some Effects Of Changing Prices And Federal Regulation, John R. Griffith, Ruth Y. Griffith
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Input-output data are used to indicate some possible effects on the industrial sector of government options relating to energy, and some results of the industrial conservation program are examined.
Energy Substitution Prospects, Vaman Rao
Energy Substitution Prospects, Vaman Rao
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Any discussion about the future pattern of energy use invariably includes scernarios involving a switch-over to that source of energy which is available in abundant supply. It is taken for granted, for example, that coal will play a major role in the future and that the relative share of oil will decline with the passage of time. It is too simplistic to assume that a time series analysis will give the likely clues as to the pattern of switch-over from one source of energy to another. There has been a radical change in the structure of exchange relations between the …

Electricity Generation And Abatement Of Gypsum Production, Angelos Pagoulatos
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
This paper analyzes the possibility of reducing costs of compliance for coal-fired electric generating plants. As electricity production relies more heavily on coal, the possibility of marketing abatement gypsum is explored and qualitative estimates are obtained.

General equilibrium strategies may be relatively difficult to determine. While multiplicative strategies may be much simpler to calculate, they are not in general in equilibrium. An example shows that such strategies may indeed be quite far from equilibrium. However, if the example is iterated using Bayesian decision analysis, the strategies quickly converge to being very nearly in equilibrium.
