The Impact Of The Bruce Nuclear Power Development Planned Workforce Increase On Kincardine, Ontario, Robert Mark Flesch Jan 1992

The Impact Of The Bruce Nuclear Power Development Planned Workforce Increase On Kincardine, Ontario, Robert Mark Flesch

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

This study investigates the underlying dimensions of public attitudes toward the impact of the Bruce Nuclear Power Development planned workforce increase on Kincardine, Ontario. Kincardine, a small rural community of approximately 5900 inhabitants (Statistics Canada, 1986), is located in the southwestern portion of Bruce County. Much of the current landscape, demographic composition, and industrial structure can directly be attributed to the locality’s function as a residential nucleation for the Bruce Nuclear Power Development workforce and their families (Hecht and Sharpe, 1990; Chalk, 1990). Two propositions form the basis for this study of community response. The first states that the underlying …

Ricardian Equivalence Or The Indifference Between Tax And Debt Financing, Chad Moutray Jan 1992

Ricardian Equivalence Or The Indifference Between Tax And Debt Financing, Chad Moutray

Masters Theses

Ricardian equivalence is a topic which has attracted much attention in the economic journals in the past couple of decades. Economic theory states that a tax cut gives the public a greater disposable income. Thus, the public will consume more, and the economy will grow. However, if the tax cut is financed by debt, the public will perceive that a future tax increase is inevitable to pay off the debt. Under this scenario, the public will not consume more. Instead, they will save all of their increased disposable income in anticipation of the future tax increase. Ricardian equivalence then is …

Some Improvements On An Algorithm For Controlled Selection, Ting Kwong Lin Jan 1992

Some Improvements On An Algorithm For Controlled Selection, Ting Kwong Lin

Research Collection School Of Economics

The sampling technique called controlled selection was f'irst described by Goodman and Kish (1950). It was found to be a very useful sampling technique among practicing survey samplers, especially in selecting first-stage units in multi-stage sampling. Hess, Riedel and Fitzpatrick (1961, 1975) have given a simple illustration on how it can be implemented in the sampling of hospitals in the state of Michigan. In this paper, we show how the Groves-Hess algorithm can be improved and how further controls which are useful to survey practitioners can be built into the algorithm. Problems the old algorithm could not solve can now …

Market Efficiency Test Of Australian Options Market Using Put Call Parity Analysis, Eng Kiang Peter Lee Jan 1992

Market Efficiency Test Of Australian Options Market Using Put Call Parity Analysis, Eng Kiang Peter Lee

Theses : Honours

The aims of this thesis is twofold. The primary objective is to test the market efficiency of Australian Options Marlcet (AOM) using the put call parity model. In addition, empirical evidence on the put call parity model is also gather. The put call parity model specified a deterministic relation between the prices of calls and puts. In particular, the put call parity model specifies an upper and lower boundary conditions. A breach in the put call parity model result in arbitrage opportunities which is inconsistent with a efficient market. Four companies share options traded in AOM over a six month …

Exchange Rate And Income Effects On South Korean Exports: The Us Case, Heather M. O'Neill, William Ross Dec 1991

Exchange Rate And Income Effects On South Korean Exports: The Us Case, Heather M. O'Neill, William Ross

Business and Economics Faculty Publications

This paper analyzes econometrically the effects of direct and cross exchange rates as well as US income and Korean supply developments on the volume of Korean exports to the US. The results suggest that US demand has been the most important factor in the growth of Korean exports to the US in recent years. However, direct exchange rate effects are also important; the estimates suggest that for 1989-90, a yearly 10% real appreciation of the won against the dollar would have lowered export volume by about 10% per year relative to a baseline case. Cross exchange rate effects run counter …

Instrumental Valuation Indicators For Natural Resources And Ecosystems, F. Gregory Hayden Dec 1991

Instrumental Valuation Indicators For Natural Resources And Ecosystems, F. Gregory Hayden

Department of Economics: Faculty Publications

Beldon Daniels, in the early draft of his latest book, which has a working title of Rediscovering America, 1992, has written that there have been four major eras in human history. The fourth, into which we are now evolving, according to Daniels, is the age of intelligence. Although the intelligence activity of the modern age both uses and directs the development of large quantities of data, information, and knowledge; a measurement concept, or unit for valuation has yet to be developed. The industrial age from which we are evolving, consistent with the technology of that era, has used industrial …
