This study describes the impact of GRC on the State of Ohio and on Northeast Ohio, where GRC is located. Northeast Ohio includes the eight counties in the Akron and Cleveland metropolitan areas.1 This report is an expansion and update of an earlier study, published in February 1996.2 As before, this study employs two methods to determine GRC’s influence on the state and local economies. The first method uses quantitative models to estimate the effect of GRC on the studied economies. Borgess Health Alliance and Bronson Healthcare Group play a vital economic role in Kalamazoo County. First, they are major employers in the county. Second, their activities support hundreds of additional jobs in Kalamazoo County as individuals from the county as well as surrounding counties receive tertiary care service from the the two medical providers. Third, they enhance the county's quality of life by providing excellent medical services that are not available in many communities of similar size.

KWRRI Research Reports

The institutions responsible for water resources management in the United States have originated as political responses to major social issues. Each agency institutionalized a procedure for structuring and comparing alternatives in the formulation of its total program. Each agency originally sought to promote effective resolution of its social issue (flood control, development of arid lands, soil erosion, etc.), but more recent efforts have sought better coordination among agency practices through a common procedure largely derived from economic theory.
