The article aims to construct an analytical model to explain why the presence of Sundanese political leaders at the national level is relatively low despite that they are the second largest majority group in Indonesia. The model focuses on historical factor, social network, culture, as well as the role of local government and society. The historical factor is crucial as to describe the importance of Sundanese’s position with Bandung as its core in its sociopolitical relation with Jakarta. The focus of this paper is the dynamic relationship in automobile industry between entrepreneur and the power in 1969-1998. The length of this study can be divided in three periods: seeking the industrial form, going to maturity, and realizing the industrial autonomous. Looking back to the Old Order and analyzing along three periods, this research has found that the structure transformed the interactions between actors—“the shifting patronage”. This article argue that “Chinese-ness” is an achievable entity to a social group with indigenous cultural identity. Previous studies tend to define ethnic identity as a single and objective entity. This study offers a new understanding on ethnic identity. Identity is defined as a process to identify a certain collectivity in which an individual feels he/she belonged to, while ethnicity is one of the manifestations of collectivities. Thus, identity is a subjective process, where each individual plays a significant role in determining his/her collectivity as his/her alter-ego. Stereotypes and beliefs about women have often kept them from equality with men. What is more striking is that women perpetuate the stereotypes and beliefs as much as men and society as a whole. This literature review focuses on three areas in a woman’s background that influence her ability to lead: a) triggers that propel her into a leadership position, b) the “intersectionalities” or multiple identities and personalities a woman must have to be an effective leader, and c) how the context of where she leads affects her leadership behavior.
