It integrates the study of virtual communities and media convergence research with a broader social milieu that is represented in two levels of research the micro level and the macro one. Among the significances of this thesis, is that it is considered to be the first academic investigation in the Arab World that tackles this theme of research.

The Contingency Theory Of Accommodation In Public Relations And Its Applicability To The Telecommunication Sector In Egypt, Rania H El Bakry
Archived Theses and Dissertations
Public relations continues to be one of the most difficult to define fields. Many strides have been made in the development of public relations theory in an effort to provide some guidelines for practitioners of the field. Among the field's most prominent theories is the two-way symmetrical communication model. The model was deemed the most ideal and normative theory for practicing public relations. The contingency theory of accommodation proposes an effective and ethical alternative to the two-way symmetrical model of communication.
The telecommunication sector in Egypt is among the country's most dynamic fields and boasts some of the most active …

Egypt: Encourage Journalists To Cover Reproductive Health, Frontiers In Reproductive Health
Reproductive Health
To raise public awareness of reproductive health (RH) issues, the Population Council’s Frontiers project and the Futures Group’s Policy project jointly organized four press briefings and provided background materials to key journalists from Arabic newspapers and magazines. From May 1999 to June 2000, project staff worked closely with 20 Egyptian journalists, including editors of women’s pages and senior editors. The press briefings covered youth, marriage patterns, contraceptive technology, and menopause. The press kit prepared for each briefing contained fact sheets, reference materials, a contact list of key experts, and an evaluation sheet. To assess RH reporting and track coverage resulting …

Dissemination Strategy, July 1995–January 1998, Population Council
Reproductive Health
During the first phase of the ANE OR/TA project (1990–95), 55 studies and 23 workshops were conducted in 9 countries. In support of this effort, a dissemination strategy was produced that guided the communications activities of the first phase. Regional communications officers were hired in New Delhi and Cairo, and the project began to systematically address its objectives of communicating the findings of all studies to a diverse array of audiences within each country, subregion, and internationally. Several activities were undertaken to create a coherent and unified framework for disseminating the results of studies and informing audiences of recent project …

Counseling The Husbands Of Postabortion Patients In Egypt: Effects On Husband Involvement, Patient Recovery And Contraceptive Use, Nahla G. Abdel-Tawab, Dale Huntington, Ezzeldin Osman Hassan, Hala Youssef, Laila Nawar
Reproductive Health
An ANE OR/TA Project qualitative study conducted in 1995 probed into women’s perceptions of abortion in Egypt, and the stress that postabortion patients experience during recovery. That study drew attention to the important role husbands can play in their wives’ recovery and subsequent use of contraception. This study was designed to test the effects of involving husbands in the postabortion medical-care process. Overall, the study indicates that providing counseling to husbands of postabortion patients is feasible, as the majority of husbands either accompanied their wife on admission or at discharge from the hospital. However, administrative changes are needed to enhance …

The recently approved dissemination strategy of the Population Council's ANE OR/TA Project aims to improve the communication process for diffusing study results, enhance their utilization, and institutionalize the operations research communications methods in each of the ANE OR/TA countries. This exercise was conducted in Egypt between January and March 1996. The methodology was based on conducting in-depth interviews …

Faculty Books
The monograph is based upon my MA thesis, which was submitted to the Department of Sociology-Anthropology-Psychology at the American University in Cairo. The problem of inter-state conflict in the Middle East is ripe for a concerted research effort combining the methods of several of the social science disciplines and its aim would be to accomplish three objectives: 1) to identify generally those conflict situations or states which are likely to lead to war 2) to evaluate particular conflict situations and probable lines along which they are likely to develop if left to themselves 3) To suggest further possible techniques for …
