Communication Theory And The Construction Of Meaning : A Constructive Developmental Approach, Merri Lee Fraser Jan 1987

Communication Theory And The Construction Of Meaning : A Constructive Developmental Approach, Merri Lee Fraser

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In recent years the field of communication has been experiencing a movement toward newer non-tradtional approaches to the study of communication and information. Among these newer approaches is a growing body of research that focuses on interpretive behavior in the communication process.

Brenda Dervin's Sense-Making model of communication/information has been the most widely used interpretive theory of information to date. Sense-Making focuses primarily upon the role of the receiver in the communication process and how individuals construct meaning in specific situations. The Cost Efficiency And Communication Effects Associated With Brand Name Exposure Within Motion Pictures, Eva Marie Steortz Jan 1987

The Cost Efficiency And Communication Effects Associated With Brand Name Exposure Within Motion Pictures, Eva Marie Steortz

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Brand name products have been making appearances on the silver screen since the beginning of the cinema. Jack Daniels bourbon made its film debut when Joan Crawford served it in the 1945 movie, Mildred Pierce. However, only recently has such a great effort been exerted by those involved in this "advertising" technique. Many credit this growing trend to E.T., Steven Spielberg's lovable little alien creature, who followed a trail of Reese's Pieces to a documented 65 percent increase in sales for the Hershey company in 1982.

Interestingly, there is no research available concerning the communication effects associated with a brand …

Southern Baptist Convention Media Missions In Africa: Cross-Cultural Communications In A Pluralistic Environment, Ian Robert Cosh Jan 1987

Southern Baptist Convention Media Missions In Africa: Cross-Cultural Communications In A Pluralistic Environment, Ian Robert Cosh

Honors Theses

The purpose for research was to analyze and synthesize the accomplishments of the Southern Baptist Convention's media missions work in Africa and to document the essence, magnitude and complexity of the task facing media missionaries in Africa. Research conducted by the writer at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in June 1986 revealed that the formal study of media missions is comparatively new, and therefore not well documented. Much of the up-to-date information available is in the form of audio cassette tapes and video recordings. Research papers written by students at the seminary, within the past two years, frequently cite sources at …

Liking And Disliking To Be Touched By Staff As Reported By Female Nursing And Retirement Home Residents, Mary Beth Pintarich

The present study was designed to obtain information about what elderly women in nursing and retirement homes report to be liked and disliked types of touching. Participants who volunteered for this study were 32 ambulatory females 65 years of age or older who were living in nursing or retirement homes. Each participant was shown a set of 20 photos and sketches depicting a staff person touching an …
