Analysis Of Unmodified Stone Materials From The Cambria Site, Charles R. Watrall
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
Analysis of the stone materials from the Cambria Site reinforces cultural implications about the site made on formal artifact analysis alone. Secondly, the paper illustrates a simple means of analysis to gain vital information on archaeological site culture history.

A Pilot Study Of Wichita Indian Archeology And Ethnohistory, Robert E. Bell, Edward B. Jelks, W., W. Newcombe
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
In 1965 several anthropologists drew up plans for a one-year pilot study of the archeology and ethnohistory of the Wichita Indian tribes. After financial support had been generously provided by the National Science Foundation, the proposed research was carried out. This is a report on the results of that study.
The pilot study was designed to: a) obtain a body of field data from the components of the Spanish Fort sites, the largest and best=documented of the historic Wichita sites in the Red River area; b) make test excavations at several other sites in order that a problem=oriented program of …
A Preliminary Report On The Itasca Bison Site, Creighton T. Shay
A Preliminary Report On The Itasca Bison Site, Creighton T. Shay
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
In the summer of 1937 excavations conducted by the University of Minnesota Anthropology Department in Itasca State Park yielded extinct bison and other animal remains along with several stone artifacts. A preliminary notice was published in Science shortly after excavation was completed (Jenks, 193 7). The bones were extracted from a marl layer underlying a peat bog near the south end of the west arm of Lake Itasca. The deposit was discovered during construction of a road bridge over Nicollet Creek adjacent to the site. Material in the following report was assembled from unpublished field notes and records on file …
Ceramic Analysis Of The Blackduck Ware And Its General Cultural Relationships, G. Edward Evans
Ceramic Analysis Of The Blackduck Ware And Its General Cultural Relationships, G. Edward Evans
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
The present paper involves the ceramic analysis section of a more comprehensive study relating to the seven most extensively excavated Blackduck focus sites in Minnesota. The pottery from the sites analyzed falls into three ware categories: the Blackduck ware, the Laurel or Rainy River ware, and a third unidentified ware. The Blackduck ware, which is the one with which we are primarily concerned, has been generally described by Lloyd A. Wilford several times (1941, 1955). His description of the pottery may be taken as a general ware description, although there are several details that need clarification. The· ware may be …

A Prehistoric Habitation Site On The St. Croix River, Ralph D. Brown
A Prehistoric Habitation Site On The St. Croix River, Ralph D. Brown
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
The recent report of the discovery of a prehistoric rock shelter or cave habitation site on the St. Croix River was received with considerable interest, for such sites have often been the source of important information in the field of archaeology. However, they are very rare in the Northwest; and, although in southern Minnesota there are in some places many caves and shelters, there is no evidence, with very few exceptions, that any of them was ever occupied. It was possible to excavate this shelter carefully and to preserve the evidences of prehistoric life which it contained. To date, it …

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
A lady begs leave to submit to the attention and keeping of the Minnesota Academy of Natural Sciences, a small box of pottery fragments collected, for the most part, from various points upon the shores of Red Lake, Red Lake Ojibwa reservation, Beltrami county, Minnesota. These objects have been secured through the good offices of t:esident sub-agent Mr. Jonathan Taylor, and of his family; a considerable share of them having been obtained directly from the soil through the personal efforts of Mr. Taylor's son, Elmer Hamilton. Rev. Fred Smith, native missionary at Red Lake sub-agency, has also kindly contributed groups …
