The Effect Of Presidential Action On Popular Support Of Foreign Policy: The Case Of Vietnam, William Hines Jr.

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Explicitly stated the hypothesis that was tested was as follows: The relationship between Presidential action and an increase in public support for the President on matters of Vietnam policy is equal to zero.

Presidential action was viewed as any major development in Policy (whether it be military or political) toward the war. Furthermore, any major speech by the President or other high governmental official reaffirming the government's course of action was posited into the category of Presidential action. In order for the speech to be considered "major" it either had to have been broadcast over nationwide television or widely disseminated …

Henry Carter Stuart: Virginia Farmer - Politician, 1855-1933, Sharon Kaye Brown May 1970

Henry Carter Stuart: Virginia Farmer - Politician, 1855-1933, Sharon Kaye Brown

Theses & Honors Papers

Henry Carter Stuart was a prominent farmer and wealthy businessman in Southwestern Virginia. He was a politician in the hard fought "Redeem the Ninth" Congressional election of 1910. And, he was elected, unopposed in both the primary and general elections, to the governorship of Virginia in 1913.

Although he reached the highest political office in the State, Virginia history gives Stuart no more than a mere mention. It was because of this lack of recognition that I selected to study Henry Carter Stuart. My purpose was to determine if he had been unfairly accorded the position of relative unimportance, or …

The Causes Of Student Unrest, Sandra Lee Sawyer May 1970

The Causes Of Student Unrest, Sandra Lee Sawyer

Honors Theses

Protest is not a new invention of the 1960's. Protest has always been the normal apparatus to initiate change in human societies. College students can no longer be taken for granted. Though the great majority of them remain largely content, conservative, and apathetic, a determined minority of restless ones have forces other to examine and sometimes to change institutions, rules, and values that were once considered inviolate.
