Is The Y (2175) A Strangeonium Hybrid Meson?, Jason Ho, R. Berg, T. G. Steele, W. Chen, D. Harnett

Faculty Work Comprehensive List

QCD Gaussian sum rules are used to explore the vector (JPC=1−−) strangeonium hybrid interpretation of the Y(2175). Using a two-resonance model consisting of the Y(2175) and an additional resonance, we find that the relative resonance strength of the Y(2175) in the Gaussian sum rules is less than 5% that of a heavier 2.9 GeV state. This small relative strength presents a challenge to a dominantly hybrid interpretation of the Y(2175).

We report measurements of the production cross sections of charged pions, kaons, and protons as a function of fractional energy, the event-shape variable called thrust, and the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These measurements access the transverse momenta created in the fragmentation process, which are of critical importance to the understanding of any transverse-momentum-dependent distribution and fragmentation functions. The low transverse-momentum part of the cross sections can be well described by Gaussians in transverse momentum as is generally assumed but the fractional-energy dependence is nontrivial and different hadron types have varying Gaussian widths. The width of these …

Recent investigations have suggested that the six-quark combination uuddss could be a deeply bound state (S) that has eluded detection so far, and a potential dark matter candidate. We report the first search for a stable, doubly strange six-quark state in ϒ → SΛ¯ Λ¯ decays based on a sample of 90 × 106ϒ(2S) and 110 × 106ϒ(3S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment. No signal is observed, and 90% confidence level limits on the combined ϒ(2S; 3S) → SΛ¯ Λ¯ branching fraction in the range (1.2–1.4) × 10−7 are derived for m …

Measuring The Weizsäcker-Williams Distribution Of Linearly Polarized Gluons At An Electron-Ion Collider Through Dijet Azimuthal Asymmetries, Adrian Dumitru, Vladimir Skokov, Thomas Ullrich

Publications and Research

The production of a hard dijet with small transverse momentum imbalance in semi-inclusive DIS probes the conventional and linearly polarized Weizsäcker-Williams (WW) transverse momentum dependent (TMD) gluon distributions. The latter, in particular, gives rise to an azimuthal dependence of the dijet cross section. In this paper we analyze the feasibility of a measurement of these TMDs through dijet production in DIS on a nucleus at an electron-ion collider. We introduce the MCDIJET Monte Carlo generator to sample quark-antiquark dijet configurations based on leading-order parton level cross sections with WW gluon distributions that solve the nonlinear small-x QCD evolution equations. …

Large Transverse Momentum In Semi-Inclusive Deeply Inelastic Scattering Beyond Lowest Order, B. Wang, J. O. Gonzalez-Hernandez, T. C. Rogers, N. Sato

Motivated by recently observed tension between O(α2s) calculations of very large transverse momentum dependence in both semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan scattering, we repeat the details of the calculation through an O(α2s) transversely differential cross section. The results confirm earlier calculations, and provide further support to the observation that tension exists with current parton distribution and fragmentation functions.

Precise Calculation Of Differential Cross Sections For The Z Boson Plus Jetsproduction In Proton-Proton Collisions At A Center-Of-Mass Energy Of 13 Tev, Kadi̇r Öcalan

Turkish Journal of Physics

The differential cross section predictions for the associated production of a Z boson and jets are presented in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The differential cross sections are calculated by using a computational framework for the dielectron decay mode of the Z boson. Higher-order differential cross section predictions are obtained in the fiducial phase space and are compared at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-NLO (NNLO) in perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD). The predicted results are reported as functions of the variables including the jet multiplicity, the invariant mass of the Z boson, and transverse momenta of the …

Higher-Order Differential Cross Section Calculation For The Associated Production Ofa W Boson And Jets In The Electron Decay Channel At A Center-Of-Mass Energy Of 13tev In Proton-Proton Collisions, Kadi̇r Öcalan

Turkish Journal of Physics

Higher-order cross sections for the production of a W boson in association with jets in the electron decay channel are presented in this study. Cross sections were calculated in a fully differential way using a computational framework based on proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The differential cross section predictions in the fiducial phase-space were compared at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-NLO (NNLO) in perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD). The differential results are reported for the variables including the jet multiplicity, the invariant mass of the W boson, transverse momentum, the jet rapidity, and the electron pseudorapidity that …

PDFs can be studied directly using lattice QCD by evaluating matrix elements of non-local operators. A number of groups are pursuing numerical calculations and investigating possible systematic uncertainties. One systematic that has received less attention is the effect of calculating in a finite spacetime volume. Here we present first attempts to assess the role of the finite volume for spatially non-local operators. We find that these matrix elements may suffer from large finite-volume artifacts and more careful investigation is needed.
