Numerical Studies Of Correlated Topological Systems, Rahul Soni

In this thesis, we study the interplay of Hubbard U correlation and topological effects in two different bipartite lattices: the dice and the Lieb lattices. Both these lattices are unique as they contain a flat energy band at E = 0, even in the absence of Coulombic interaction. When interactions are introduced both these lattices display an unexpected multitude of topological phases in our U -λ phase diagram, where λ is the spin-orbit coupling strength. We also study ribbons of the dice lattice and observed that they qualitative display all properties of their two-dimensional counterpart. This includes flat bands near …

Most biological systems employ multiple redundant actuators, which is a complicated problem of controls and analysis. Unless assumptions about how the brain and body work together, and assumptions about how the body prioritizes tasks are applied, it is not possible to find the actuator controls. The purpose of this research is to develop computational tools for the analysis of arbitrary musculoskeletal models that employ redundant actuators. In relativistic heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a hot, dense and strongly interacting medium known as the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) is produced. Quarks and gluons from incoming nuclei collide to produce partons at high momenta early in the collisions. By fragmenting into collimated sprays of hadrons, these partons form 'jets'. Within the framework of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD), jet production is well understood in pp collisions. We can use jets measured in pp interactions as a baseline reference for comparing to heavy ion collision systems to detect and study jet quenching. The jet quenching mechanism …

We calculate gauge theory one-loop amplitudes with the aid of the complex shift used in the Britto- Cachazo-Feng-Witten (BCFW) recursion relations of tree amplitudes. We apply the shift to the integrand and show that the contribution from the limit of infinite shift vanishes after integrating over the loop momentum, with a judicious choice of basis for polarization vectors. This enables us to write the one-loop amplitude in terms of on-shell tree and lower-point one-loop amplitudes. Some of the tree amplitudes are forward amplitudes. We show that their potential singularities do not contribute and the BCFW recursion relations can be applied …
