Inverse Compton scattering (ICS) holds the potential for future high flux, narrow bandwidth x-ray sources driven by high quality, high repetition rate electron beams. CBETA, the Cornell-BNL Energy recovery linac (ERL) Test Accelerator, is the world’s first superconducting radiofrequency multi-turn ERL, with a maximum energy of 150 MeV, capable of ICS production of x-rays above 400 keV. We present an update on the bypass design and anticipated parameters of a compact ICS source at CBETA. X-ray parameters from the CBETA ICS are compared to those of leading synchrotron radiation facilities, demonstrating that, above a few hundred keV, photon beams produced …

Yearly DoD spends millions of dollars on Modeling and Simulation tools in order to accomplish two fundamental tasks: make better decisions and develop better skills. Simulators that are based on realistic models enable the USAF to properly train, educate, and employ military forces. LEEDR is an atmospheric model based on worldwide historic weather data that is able to predict the extinction, absorption, and scattering of radiation across a broad range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Lower hybrid waves have been used extensively for plasma heating, current drive, and ramp-up as well as sawteeth stabilization, The wave kinetic equation for lower hybrid wave propagation is extended to include the effects of both magnetic and density fluctuations. This integral equation is then solved by Monte Carlo procedures for a toroidal plasma. It is shown that even for magnetic/density fluctuation levels on the order of 10-4, there are significant magnetic fluctuation effects on the wave power deposition into the plasma. This effect is quite pronounced if the magnetic fluctuation spectrum is peaked within the plasma. For …
