A Uniformly Most Powerful Test For The Mean Of A Beta Distribution, Richard Ntiamoah Kyei Aug 2024

A Uniformly Most Powerful Test For The Mean Of A Beta Distribution, Richard Ntiamoah Kyei

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The beta distribution is used in numerous real-world applications, including areas such as manufacturing (quality control) and analyzing patient outcomes in health care. It also plays a key role in statistical theory, including multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and Bayesian statistics. It is a flexible distribution that can account for many different characteristics of real data. To our surprise, there has been very little work or discussion on performing statistical hypothesis testing for the mean when it is reasonable to assume that the population is beta distributed. Many analysts conduct traditional analyses using a t-test or nonparametric approach, try transformations, …

Effectiveness Of Prescribed Fire On Meeting Fuel Load And Wildlife Habitat Management Objectives In East Texas National Forests, Trey Wall Dec 2018

Effectiveness Of Prescribed Fire On Meeting Fuel Load And Wildlife Habitat Management Objectives In East Texas National Forests, Trey Wall

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Using standardized methodology outlined by the United States Forest Service and the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas’ Fire Monitoring Program for data collection, the efficacy of current Forest Service prescribed burn regimes were analyzed for 24 study sites in East Texas National Forests. Study sites were located within Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, and Angelina/Sabine National Forests. Efficacy was determined by comparing defined management objectives established by the Forest Service to the data collected at the study sites. The results conclude that most objectives, as outlined by the Forest Service, are not being met with the current practices. Re-visitation of …

The Tuscaloosa Marine Shale: Geologic History, Depositional Analysis, And Exploration Potential, Jessica D. Pair Feb 2017

The Tuscaloosa Marine Shale: Geologic History, Depositional Analysis, And Exploration Potential, Jessica D. Pair

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Tuscaloosa Marine Shale (TMS) was deposited across southern Louisiana and Mississippi during the Upper Cretaceous. The study focuses on a core region containing vast deposits of Cretaceous-aged sediments that have economic importance for oil and gas exploration. This region has been conventionally drilled for decades, focusing on the recovery of the Cretaceous hydrocarbons. Explorers within this region had traditionally targeted the massive sand units of the Lower and Upper Tuscaloosa Group while neglecting the middle Tuscaloosa Marine Shale unit. With the onset of unconventional drilling technology, new explorers to the region have begun to delineate the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale’s …
