Newsvendor Models with Monte Carlo Sampling by Ijeoma Winifred Ekwegh The newsvendor model is used in solving inventory problems in which demand is random. In this thesis, we will focus on a method of using Monte Carlo sampling to estimate the order quantity that will either maximizes revenue or minimizes cost given that demand is uncertain. Given data, the Monte Carlo approach will be used in sampling data over scenarios and also estimating the probability density function. A bootstrapping process yields an empirical distribution for the order quantity that will maximize the expected profit. Finally, this method will be used …

Slums are contiguous settlements. Inhabitants lack access to safe water, sanitation and sewage infrastructure, secure housing tenure, uncrowded living space, and permanent, durable housing. Addressing these problematic trends begins with identifying contiguous settlements within Mumbai’s urban fabric. Classifications can be performed using satellite images and remote sensing techniques to yield accurate results. Through literature reviews, socio-cultural analysis, and examination of high resolution satellite imagery, this project aims to develop a systematic, accessible, and reproducible method of classifying Mumbai’s slums.

In this paper we introduce for the first time the fusion of information on infinite discrete frames of discernment and we give general results of the fusion of two such masses using the Dempster’s rule and the PCR5 rule for Bayesian and non-Bayesian cases.

Level crossing times and their applications in finance are of importance, given certain threshold levels that represent the "desirable" or "sell" values of a stock. There is a shared desire among public and private sectors to make more reliable predictions, accurate mapping, and appropriate scaling of soil moisture and associated parameters across landscapes. A discrepancy often exists between the scale at which soil hydrologic properties are measured and the scale at which they are modeled for management purposes. Moreover, little is known about the relative importance of hydrologic modeling parameters as soil moisture fluctuates with time. Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this article, the analytical method, Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) has been successfully implemented for solving nonlinear logistic model of fractional order. The fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. Using initial value, the explicit solutions of population size for different particular cases have been derived. Numerical results show that the method is extremely efficient to solve this complicated biological model.

The causes of nomadism, migration, and decline in vertebrates are debated issues in the ecological sciences. Literature suggests nomadism may arise in species that specialize in granivory, nectivory, or the utilization of rodent outbreaks. Migration is thought to arise as a result of the exploitation of certain scarce or variable food resources. Species decline is hypothesized to be the result of many different factors as well; large species, island species and specialists may be more prone to decline.
