How The Perceived Value Of Education, Parental Influences, And Students' Perceived Success Affect Post-Graduate Decisions, Valerie Blanchard
How The Perceived Value Of Education, Parental Influences, And Students' Perceived Success Affect Post-Graduate Decisions, Valerie Blanchard
Honors Projects in Mathematics
While technical education has been enhanced in many ways over the past few decades, college is still the preferred post-graduate path for many students and is the societal norm. This study will analyze the value that students view in their career path that leads them to make their post-graduate decisions. The goal of this research is to better understand why students pursue college and how these decisions come to be with specific attention paid to the impact of gender, interests, and self-efficacy. This understanding can educate others about the gravity of social norms and can start conversations about how to …

The History Of The Enigma Machine, Jenna Siobhan Parkinson
The History Of The Enigma Machine, Jenna Siobhan Parkinson
History Publications
The history of the Enigma machine begins with the invention of the rotor-based cipher machine in 1915. Various models for rotor-based cipher machines were developed somewhat simultaneously in different parts of the world. However, the first documented rotor machine was developed by Dutch naval officers in 1915. Nonetheless, the Enigma machine was officially invented following the end of World War I by Arthur Scherbius in 1918 (Faint, 2016).

(R1958) On Deferred Statistical Convergence Of Fuzzy Variables, Ömer Kişi, Mehmet Gürdal, Ekrem Savaş
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, within framework credibility theory, we examine several notions of convergence and statistical convergence of fuzzy variable sequences. The convergence of fuzzy variable sequences such as the notion of convergence in credibility, convergence in distribution, convergence in mean, and convergence uniformly virtually certainly via postponed Cesàro mean and a regular matrix are researched using fuzzy variables. We investigate the connections between these concepts. Significant results on deferred statistical convergence for fuzzy variable sequences are thoroughly investigated.

(R1886) Effect Of Aggregation Function In Moma-Plus Method For Obtaining Pareto Optimal Solutions, Alexandre Som, Abdoulaye Compaoré, Kounhinir Somé, Blaise Somé
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this work, we have proposed some variants of MOMA-Plus method that we have numerically tested for the resolution of nonlinear multiobjective optimization problems. This MOMA-Plus method and variants differ from each other by the choice of aggregation functions in order to reduce the number of objective functions. The theoretical results allowing us to use these aggregation functions to transform multiobjective optimization problems into single objective optimization problems are proved by two theorems. This study has highlighted the advantages of each aggregation function according to the type of Pareto front of the optimization problem. Six benchmarks test problems have been …

(R1888) On The Mackey-Glass Model With A Piecewise Constant Argument, Mehtap Lafci Büyükkahraman
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, we deal with the Mackey-Glass model with piecewise constant argument. Because the corresponding difference equation is the difference solution of the equation, the difference equation can clearly predict the dynamic behavior of the equation. So, we look at how the difference equation behaves. We study the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point of the difference equation and it is obtained that this point is a repeller under some conditions. Also, it is shown that every oscillatory solution of the difference equation has semi-cycles of length at least two, and every oscillatory solution of the difference equation is attracted …
Financial Literacy Among Buffalo State College Undergraduate Students, Toni Martinucci
Financial Literacy Among Buffalo State College Undergraduate Students, Toni Martinucci
Public Administration Master’s Projects
Financial literacy can be complex and difficult for college students to comprehend. Many students struggle to afford college and are faced with large amounts of student loan debt. Financial awareness needs to be addressed early on for students to make informed decisions about college costs, student debt, and financial aid. However, financial aid applications, terms and conditions, and eligibility requirements are difficult for many students to comprehend on their own. The purpose of this study is to access financial literacy among undergraduate students at Buffalo State College. A quantitative approach is used in this study by implementing a web-based cross-sectional …
A Comparison Of Cryptographic Methods, Christopher Gilmore
A Comparison Of Cryptographic Methods, Christopher Gilmore
Senior Honors Theses
While elliptic curve cryptography and quantum cryptography are significantly different branches of cryptography, they provide a suitable reference point for comparison of the value of developing methods used in the present and investing in methods to be used in the future. Elliptic curve cryptography is quite common today, as it is generally secure and efficient. However, as the field of cryptography advances, the value of quantum cryptography’s inherent security from its basic properties should be considered, as a fully realized quantum cryptosystem has the potential to be quite powerful. Ultimately, it is of critical importance to determine the value of …

On The Smallest Non-Trivial Action Of Saut(Fn) For Small N, Reemon Spector
Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal
In this paper we investigate actions of SAut(Fn), the unique index 2 subgroup of Aut(Fn), on small sets, improving upon results by Baumeister--Kielak--Pierro for several small values of n. Using a computational approach for n ⩾ 5, we show that every action of SAut(Fn) on a set containing fewer than 20 elements is trivial.

A Question Of Fundamental Methodology: Reply To Mikhail Katz And His Coauthors, Tom Archibald, Richard T. W. Arthur, Giovanni Ferraro, Jeremy Gray, Douglas Jesseph, Jesper Lützen, Marco Panza, David Rabouin, Gert Schubring
Philosophy Faculty Articles and Research
This paper is a response by several historians of mathematics to a series of papers published from 2012 onwards by Mikhail Katz and various co-authors, the latest of which was recently published in the Mathematical Intelligencer, “Two-Track Depictions of Leibniz’s Fictions” (Katz, Kuhlemann, Sherry, Ugaglia, and van Atten, 2021). At issue is a question of fundamental methodology. These authors take for granted that non-standard analysis provides the correct framework for historical interpretation of the calculus, and castigate rival interpretations as having had a deleterious effect on the philosophy, practice, and applications of mathematics. Rather than make this case by reasoned …

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
In this thesis we have discovered homomorphic images of several progenitors such as 3^(*56):(23:(3:7), 3^(*14):(23:(3:7)), 5^(∗24) : S5, 2^(∗10) : (10 : 2), 56^(∗24) : (A5 : 2), and 11^(∗12) :m L2(11). We give isomorphism types of each image that we have found.
We then create a monomial representation of L2(11) by lifting 5:11 onto it.
We manually perform Double Coset Enumeration of 3:(2×S5) over D12

Cayley graph is used to find a permutation representation of 3:(2×S5). We also

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
The aim of this paper is to study a class of superoscillatory functions in several variables, removing some restrictions on the functions that we introduced in a previous paper. Since the tools that we used with our approach are not common knowledge we will give detailed proof for the case of two variables. The results proved for superoscillatory functions in several variables can be further extended to supershifts in several variables.

Artificial Neural Networks have gained much media attention in the last few years. Every day, numer- ous articles on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning exist. Both academics and business are becoming increasingly interested in deep learning. Deep learning has innumerable uses, in- cluding autonomous driving, computer vision, robotics, security and surveillance, and natural language processing. The recent development and focus have primarily been made possible by the convergence of related research efforts and the introduction of APIs like Keras. The availability of high-speed compute resources such as GPUs and TPUs has also been instrumental in developing deep learning …
