Quantitative Quality Evaluation Of Seismic-While-Mining Data, Qin Si, Cui Weixiong, Wang Wei
Coal Geology & Exploration
A seismic-while-mining(SWM) monitoring system laid in a working face of an underground coalmine will continuously generate tremendous amount of SWM data. When a coalmine cutting machine cuts coal seam actively, the SWM data will be of high correlation, and when it is not, the SWM data will be of low correlation or even no correlation at all. Based on this characteristic, a method for automatically and quantitatively evaluating the quality of SWM data was proposed. Using this method to process SWM data from a coal mine in Inner Mongolia, the result showed that this method can recognize the correlation peak …

“In Principle” Versus “In Reality”: Assessing The Potential Of Adaptive Urban Governance Toward Urban Flooding In Ho Chi Minh City’S District 7, Cindy Pham Nguyen
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Flooding has become the new normal in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). During the rainy season, many areas of the city experience severe inundation that seriously impacts infrastructure, traffic, and economic transactions. As the effects of climate change unpredictably and rapidly manifest in Southern Vietnam, the frequency and impact of urban floods are projected to increase. In addition, within the last few decades, HCMC has rapidly developed and urbanized, transforming itself into the economic center of Southern Vietnam. However, previous studies and international experts have determined that rapid, poor development may be exacerbating urban flood issues.
In recent years, city …

Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute: Faculty Publications
Green water––rainfall over land that eventually flows back to the atmosphere as evapotranspiration––is the main source of water to produce food, feed, fiber, timber, and bioenergy. To understand how freshwater scarcity constrains production of these goods, we need to consider limits to the green water footprint (WFg), the green water flow allocated to human society. However, research traditionally focuses on scarcity of blue water––groundwater and surface water. Here we expand the debate on water scarcity by considering green water scarcity (WSg). At 5 × 5 arc-minute spatial resolution, we quantify WFg and the maximum sustainable level to this footprint (WFg,m), …
