Evaluation Of The Development Potential Of The Coalbed Methane Resources In Mining Area Based On Ahp-Entropy Method, Jia Zhichao, Huang Huazhou, Huang Shaobo, Zhou Yu, Wang Bo
Coal Geology & Exploration
The development of coalbed methane(CBM) in mining area is conductive to the efficient mining of pressure relief CBM in mining panels, and it reduces the risk level of underground gas. However, the difference in geological and coal mining conditions makes the development effect of surface wells quite different. Therefore, it is of guiding significance to evaluate the pre-mining panel selection. In order to explore an efficient selection method of CBM in mining areas, a complete evaluation system of CBM development potential in mining area is established by building one vote veto system and evaluation index system, combining analytic hierarchy process(AHP) …

Sensible/Latent Hybrid Thermal Energy Storage For The Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Brayton Cycle, Kelly Osterman
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Mitigating the effects of climate change will require rapid deployment of a carbon-free electricity system that includes all available forms of zero-carbon energy. Both renewables and nuclear show great promise, but both come with drawbacks. Power production from wind and solar is limited to times when their respective resources are available, while nuclear is limited in its ability to adjust its output according to the ever-varying demand for electricity. Additionally, the systems must be affordable. One way to reduce the cost of thermal power plants (concentrated solar power and nuclear) is to use new power cycles, such as the supercritical …

Blue Carbon Sink Function Of Chinese Coastal Wetlands And Carbon Neutrality Strategy, Faming Wang, Jianwu Tang, Siyuan Ye, Jihua Liu
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Coastal wetlands are the main body of the coastal "blue carbon (C)" ecosystem, and their "blue C" and ecosystem service function are important ocean-based climate change governance methods, which is a "nature-based solution". Chinese coastal wetlands are dominated by salt marshes, with little area of mangroves, while the area of unvegetated tidal flats is large. According to conservative estimation, the current C sequestration of coastal wetlands through sediment burial in China reaches to 0.97 Tg C·a-1, and would increase to 1.82-3.64 Tg C·a-1 at the end of this century. To achieve the commitment of "C neutrality" in 2060, China should …

Coral Reefs: Potential Blue Carbon Sinks For Climate Change Mitigation, Tuo Shi, Xinqing Zheng, Han Zhang, Qifang Wang, Xin Zhong
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Coral reefs are one of the most productive, and yet most vulnerable marine ecosystems. The global decline of coral reefs induced by climate change and human activities has already affected the processes of coral calcification and carbon cycling in the reef ecosystem, intensifying the long-standing CO2 "source-sink" debate over coral reefs. Despite the fact that coral calcification is accompanied by the release of CO2 to the atmosphere, the significance of coral reefs as a carbon sink cannot be ignored, given the complex biogeochemical processes in the reef ecosystem and the characteristic mixotrophic lifestyle of the reef-building corals. From the perspective …

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Micro-organisms such as bacteria, archaea, and viruses are an immense invisible driving force behind the ocean carbon cycle and play a pivotal role in global climate change. Atmospheric CO2 is transformed into depositing organic components with the help of marine planktonic organisms which act as a biological pump (BP). The labile organic components are then transformed into recalcitrant organic carbon (RDOC) through the action of bacteria, archaea, and other organisms and viruses, which are called the microbial carbon pump (MCP). RDOC can be stored over thousands of years in the water column and the accompanying particulate organic matter can further …

A Retrospective Analysis Of The Impact Of Wind Power Generation On Residential Natural Gas Prices In The United States, Maya Vikstrom
Economics
Heightened concern over the environmental impact and price volatility of natural gas has led to an increased demand for renewable energy. Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing sources of electricity and is the United States’ top renewable energy source. As a substitute for natural gas, wind energy has a direct impact on the demand for natural gas and consequently, the price. Using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the U.S. NOAA, this paper determines a causal relationship between wind generation and natural gas prices because of the random component of weather. Employing …

Conversion From Coal To Natural Gas At Wright Patterson Air Force Base: An Analysis And Case Study, Tyler A. Ferry
Theses and Dissertations
Over the last 20 years, natural gas has replaced coal as the preferred fossil fuel for heat and power generation across the United States, due to its increased prevalence, lower cost, and reduced environmental impacts. While most conversion decisions are driven by cost savings, proponents of energy transitions often cite emissions reductions as a tangential benefit. Over the same time, climate change and its impact on the environment and society have come to the forefront of scientific inquiry. One example of the transition from coal to natural gas can be found in Dayton, Ohio. Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) …

Evaluation Of The Hydro-Fracturing Potential For Coalbed Methane Reservoir: A Case Study Of Zhengzhuang Cbm Field, Yao Yanbin, Wang Hui, Yang Yanhui, Liu Dameng, Lu Xiuqin, Cao Lutong
Coal Geology & Exploration
The "double low" rate of exploration and utilization of CBM resources in China leads to a significant slowdown in CBM production, which has become a bottleneck restricting the development of CBM industry in China. The common CBM reservoir evaluation method did not pay enough attention to the hydro-fracturing potential, resulting in low discovery rate of high-quality gas reserves and low mobilization-rate of the present reserves. Thus, it is extremely necessary to do some research regarding to hydro-fracturing potential evaluation. Targeting on the Zhengzhuang CBM field of the southern Qinshui Basin, this study did comprehensive investigations including coal core analysis, physical …
