Influence Mechanisms Of Cleats On Hydraulic Fracture Propagation In Deep Coalbed Methane Reservoirs, Wang Haiyang, Lu Chen, Su Xu, Wang Yufei, Zhou Desheng

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective Creating large-scale fracture networks through hydraulic fracturing serves as an important approach to the commercial development of deep coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs. However, these reservoirs contain extensively developed cleats. The significantly different cementation strengths of cleat fillings lead to complex interactions between cemented cleats and major hydraulic fractures during fracture propagation. Therefore, clarifying the mechanisms underlying the influence of cemented cleats on hydraulic fracture propagation is critical to improving the simulation effects of deep CBM reservoirs. Methods Using particle flow code (PFC) discrete element method, combined with quasi-triaxial mechanical test results of the No.8 coal seam within the Yichuan …

First, through thermal treatment and uniaxial compression tests of granite specimens, crack images under varying temperatures were acquired. Then, using a self-developed Lite Edge Fusion module, high-resolution shallow features were finely aligned with deep semantic features at varying scales. Furthermore, edge detection and channel-attention mechanisms were combined to enhance crack boundary perception. …

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective and Method The redevelopment and reutilization of closed/abandoned mines hold great research significance and practical production value due to their substantial number. In China, the secondary development and utilization of energy and spatial resources in such mines started late, rendering foundational theories and key technologies relatively underdeveloped. To investigate the developmental characteristics of underground spaces within goaves in closed/abandoned mines, this study proposed a reflected radio wave-based exploration method. Specifically, an observation system with a fixed transmitter-receiver (TR) spacing was deployed in rock roadways above/below or on both sides of the mining face in a closed/abandoned mine. Then, a …

Furthermore, this study developed a drilling-punching-hole protection integrated caving device. Through laboratory experiments conducted under pressure conversion and central channels equipped with controllable opening/closing mechanisms, this study selected the …

In this method, an improved random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm for multi-plane fitting was designed for feature extraction. By integrating normal vector-based pre-clustering and an adaptive iteration mechanism, …

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective Resistivity methods allow for effective detection of seepage in reservoir dams. However, when used to detect the hidden hazards of dams, the surface resistivity method fails to accurately identify vulnerable areas across an entire dam due to blind spots near both dam abutments and insufficient resolutions for deep parts. Methods This study proposed a seepage detection technique for earth-rock dams based on surface-borehole resistivity tomography, followed by the analysis of the distribution of surface-borehole resistivity under the lateral and vertical variations in a seepage zone through numerical simulations. This technique was applied to the Shibi reservoir dam. Using the …

An Experimental Study On Nonlinear Seepage Characteristics In Coal Seams During Ch4 Displacement Through N2 And Co2 Flooding, Li Zefeng, Huang Mengru, Zhang Hongzhong, Lan Jianping, Song Jinsuo, Fan Shixing

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background Coal seams in China are generally characterized by low porosity (<5%) and low permeability (0.001×10–3μm2), leading to low coalbed methane (CBM, dominated by CH4) drainage efficiency. Gas flooding-enhanced CBM drainage technology plays a significant role in surface CBM drainage, underground CBM pre-drainage, and deep geologic CO2 storage. Methods This study investigated four common types of gases: N2 and CO2 for flooding, CH4 to be displaced, and He for blank control. Based on the physical properties of these gases and employing methods including the quasi-static method, the gas flow rate method, and the Reynolds …

Reaction Mechanisms During Co2 Absorption In Ethanolamine Solutions, Teng Weiwei, Wu Yan, Fan Yuxin, Liao Tao, Wang Zicheng, Yu Hui, Li Meng, Xu Xiaoling

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective Presently, CO2 capture technology based on the ethanolamine solutions suffers from drawbacks such as high energy consumption and elevated costs. A primary method to address these challenges is to construct blended amine solutions by synergistically integrating the absorption and desorption advantages of different types of ethanolamines. Hydroxyethyl ethylenediamine (AEEA) and N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) represent two major commonly used absorbents, and their blending necessitates an accurate understanding of their CO2 absorption patterns, including CO2 loading capacity, the ion-concentration distribution patterns of reaction products, and reaction orders. Currently, their absorption mechanisms remain poorly understood, and there is a lack …

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background China possesses substantial resources of deep unmineable coal seams, which hold considerable potential for CO2 sequestration. However, simply sequestrating CO2 in deep coal seams incurs high economic costs while also wasting deep coal resources.
