Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective and Methods The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-borne ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system, enjoying the advantages of high resolution and non-contact detection, is applicable to the detection of water accumulation in coal seams and goaves in mines. Therefore, this study proposed a rapid detection method based on a UAV-borne air-coupled GPR system to enhance the exploration efficiency of mining areas and reduce the time and risks of manual explorations. Given the limitations of the test scenarios in actual coal mines, this study investigated the water body of the Fanxiong reservoir in Ezhou City and surrounding drainage culverts for equivalent validation, aiming …

Classification-Based Point Cloud Denoising And 3d Reconstruction Of Roadways, Chen Denghong, Pang Ning, Nie Wen, Feng Juqiang, Kan Jiliang, Zhang Jinjing
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective The point cloud denoising and 3D reconstruction of roadways serve as a key step in the digital modeling and analysis of roadways. However, the conventional algorithm based on single filtering fails to effectively remove the noise at varying scales from point clouds. Meanwhile, the existing 3D reconstruction algorithms suffer from low modeling accuracy and high susceptibility to distortion. These necessitate developing methods and technologies to obtain high-quality point cloud data and construct high-accuracy 3D models for roadways. Methods This study proposed an adaptive classification-based point cloud denoising algorithm using neighborhood radius (R), minimum neighborhood point number ( …

Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective The southern Shenfu block along the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin hosts one of the rare gas fields with reserves of over 100 billion cubic meters (bcm) in China, serving as a pilot demonstration area for the exploration and production of deep coalbed methane (CBM) conducted by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). In this block, the gas production of horizontal wells is 2-10 times that of vertical wells. However, the horizontal wells are challenged by significantly different and rapidly declining gas production. Determining dominant factors controlling the productivity of horizontal wells for deep CBM is the …

Fluoride Ion Removal From Mine Water Via Nucleation Crystallization Pelleting Process, Zhang Xiyu, Dong Shuning, Wang Hao, Jin Pengkang, Wang Xiaodong, Wang Qiangmin, Zhang Tao
Coal Geology & Exploration
Objective The mine water associated with coal mining tends to be rich in fluoride ions. A Seismic Random Noise Suppression Method Based On Cnn-Mamba, Wei Xiujuan, Liu Xingye, Zhou Huailai
Coal Geology & Exploration
Background Seismic random noise suppression is recognized as a key step to improve the quality of seismic data. Data-driven deep learning provides an intelligent solution for the noise suppression. However, mainstream random noise intelligent methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are constrained by their local receptive fields. This limitation results in insufficient collaborative optimization between local details and macroscopic structures during denoising, further reducing the noise suppression accuracy. Transformer models, which are widely applied to global feature extraction, can effectively capture long-distance dependencies through the self-attention mechanism, theoretically overcoming the limitations of CNNs in global modeling. However, these models …

Binary Solid/Liquid Equilibrium Of Mixtures Of Thermally Robust Salts And Molecular Compounds For Use As Heat Transfer Fluids, Jared Ridge Mathews
Poster Presentations
Fossil fuels, contributors to climate change that may bear catastrophic consequences, power the entire world. The human species is almost entirely dependent on fossil fuels for energy, but other sources of renewable and environmentally friendly energy must be developed. Concentrated solar power (CSP) is a promising source of renewable energy with hampered potential—better heat transfer fluids (HTFs) are needed for it to be economically feasible. Currently, the HTFs in industrial use are predominantly either synthetic oils or nitrate-based molten salts. Synthetic oils are only stable up to 400 °C, and molten salts often have high melting temperatures, making them prone …

The Petm: A Window Into Earth's Future Climate, Jacalyn M. Wittmer Malinowski
Climate Change and the Individual, 2025-26
The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) is not just an event that occurred in Earth’s distant past (~55 million years ago) but is a crucial lesson for today’s meteoric climate change. The PETM offers a historical parallel of rapid flux of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere that caused global warming, ocean acidification, dramatic changes in weather, and extinctions. This global warming event was the result of 20,000 years of “rapid” warming (in geological terms) however, we are experiencing rates of warming that are 5-10x higher than PETM levels. We are not experiencing rapid warming today, in comparison to the past, we …

Development Of Porous Separators For Lithium-Ion Batteries Via 3d Printing And Thermally Induced Phase Separation, Abraham Enchinton
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Additive manufacturing processes allow the development of custom-shape rechargeable batteries, but research in custom filaments for fused deposition modeling (FDM) of battery separators has remained limited until now. This study discusses the development and optimization of a composite thermoplastic filament feedstock to 3D print separator membranes. A number of post-processing steps - leveraging the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) of the composite filament - are introduced in tandem with FDM to promote microporosity formation through the removal of the sacrificial diluent phase within 3D printed samples. Three distinct compositions of varying polymer/diluent ratios were developed and thoroughly investigated through thermogravimetric …

Microseismic Monitoring And Assessment Of Segmented Hydraulic Fracturing Of Horizontal Wells In Coal Seam Roofs, Li Quangui, Peng Shuyue, Liang Yunpei, Li Wenxi, Qian Yanan, Cheng Chunhui, Yu Changjun, Zhan Jinfei
Coal Geology & Exploration
Background Microseismic monitoring, a non-destructive monitoring technique, has been extensively applied in the hydraulic fracturing performance assessment of coal seams. However, little attention is paid to the vertical wave velocity gradients in media in the same layer during the construction of layered wave velocity models. This leads to limited precision of travel time calculation and microseismic source localization, thus affecting the assessment accuracy of the hydraulic fracturing of coal seams. Objective and Methods Based on the coal seam segmented hydraulic fracturing project in a mine in Anhui, this study proposes an improved velocity model based on the Universal Kriging interpolation …

This area falls within the alpine permafrost region, exhibiting a sensitive, fragile ecosystem. In the early 21st century, disordered coal mining in this area has caused ecological damage. This has notably posed four challenges in the ecological restoration of well No.4 in this area: (1) high, steep, and unstable slopes of spoil heaps; (2) a large volume of water accumulating in mining pits; (3) permafrost excavation and destruction, and (4) land …
