An Ecopath With Ecosim Analysis On Offshore Petroleum Platform Influences On Gulf Of Mexico Red Snapper, Valentin Gomez
LSU Master's Theses
Offshore oil and gas platforms have had a significant presence in the Gulf of Mexico since the 1950s. An important secondary function of these structures is that they provide artificial habitat to fisheries, most notably Red snapper. Policy changes intended to reduce the risk associated with aging infrastructure have reduced the number of standing platforms from 4044 to 1867 from 2001 to 2018. The effect this loss of habitat has on Red snapper was tested by creating three scenarios of platform changes and modeling the perturbation from 2005 to 2050. The simulation was accomplished using the ecological model Ecopath with …
Assessment Of The Environmental And Economic Impacts Of Fossil Fuel Subsidies, Evan Cobey
Assessment Of The Environmental And Economic Impacts Of Fossil Fuel Subsidies, Evan Cobey
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
Renewable sources of energy remove dependence on fossil fuels. When renewable sources are adopted, they reduce damage to the environment from burning fossil fuels. Currently, fossil fuels are cheaper to produce, causing renewable energy to be used less. In the United States, fossil fuels receive heavy subsidies, keeping renewable energy in the periphery. This research explores the environmental and economic effects of subsidizing fossil fuels. Findings include that governments and citizens lose money when fossil fuels are subsidized. While subsidization initially makes them cheaper, they create expenses that are not factored into original costs, such as damage to human health …

Ruger Approximate Formula-Based Prediction Of Fractured Reservoir, Wu Shanshan, Gao Gang, Gui Zhixian, Wang Peng, Li Chengyi
Coal Geology & Exploration
The azimuthal anisotropy of pre-stack P-wave is the most widely used method to detect fracture. This method mainly uses the long-axis and minor axis information of the ellipse fitted by the AVAZ seismic data to evaluate the fracture. When applying it in practice, it is considered that the variation of AVAZ response characteristics in the fractured reservoirs is just determined by the anisotropic parameters, and the influence of non-anisotropic parameters is not taken into account, which leads to the multi-solution of fracture evaluation. In order to improve the accuracy of this fracture evaluation technology, we started with the model analysis, …
