Applicability Of Mercury Injection Test To The Characterization Of Low Rank Coal And Its Correction Method, Liu Yinan, Liu Yong, Xin Fudong, Wei Hongyu
Coal Geology & Exploration
As an effective method for coal reservoir characterization, mercury intrusion has been widely used in reservoir property analysis of medium-high rank coal. However, for low-rank coal, due to its loose and brittle nature, the process of mercury intrusion will destroy the pore structure, resulting in poor applicability of mercury intrusion experiments. In order to accurately assess the damage to the pore structure of low-rank coal by mercury intrusion experiments, lignite and long flame coal were selected as the research objects, and the pore size distribution of coal was tested by mercury intrusion and nuclear magnetic resonance. The results show that …

Variable Compact Multi-Point Upscaling Schemes For Anisotropic Diffusion Problems In Three-Dimensions, James Quinlan
Variable Compact Multi-Point Upscaling Schemes For Anisotropic Diffusion Problems In Three-Dimensions, James Quinlan
Dissertations
Simulation is a useful tool to mitigate risk and uncertainty in subsurface flow models that contain geometrically complex features and in which the permeability field is highly heterogeneous. However, due to the level of detail in the underlying geocellular description, an upscaling procedure is needed to generate a coarsened model that is computationally feasible to perform simulations. These procedures require additional attention when coefficients in the system exhibit full-tensor anisotropy due to heterogeneity or not aligned with the computational grid. In this thesis, we generalize a multi-point finite volume scheme in several ways and benchmark it against the industry-standard routines. …

Dissertations and Theses
Large canopies interact with the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and alter transport of matter, energy, and momentum in accordance to their morphology. Canopy structure influence on turbulent processes can be utilized to achieve favorable interactions. Wind farm and forest canopies spatial arrangement is investigated in this work. Momentum fluxes investigated in a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) array showed the existence of gusts of wind transported both from ABL above the canopy and the unperturbed flow below the canopy through sweep and ejection events. A new wind farm arrangement in which clusters of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) are collocated …
