This study aimed to evaluate rock fragmentation risk indexes and develop a predictive model for the median size of fragment (X50) using the Rock Engineering System (RES). The methodology includes the analysis of 15 significant parameters of rock properties and blast design, which are considered to be important to rock fragmentation from 30 selected blast sites. These parameters include rock type, hardness, blast-hole diameter, charge weight, blast pattern, and others that control fragmentation results. Underground mining excavations in fragile serpentinite rock masses represent a significant challenge today. The complicated features of these rock formations, especially at great depths, make it difficult to classify them using commonly employed methods. This paper focuses on the application of empirical methods for the classification of serpentinite rock masses and the design of support systems in underground mining excavations. Specifically, it concerns an access tunnel excavated entirely in serpentinite at a depth of 460 m. This study conducts a thorough review of the current scientific literature on the application of geospatial methods in the assessment of mining-induced displacement. The scope of research included technologies for determining deformation, subsidence, and landslide in mining areas. Global Navigation Satellite Systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Terrestrial Laser Scanners, Remote Sensing, and fusion methods are approaches used to solve the research objectives. Additionally, the paper also mentions some advantages, disadvantages, and scope of application of these methods. The investigation revealed that the displacement detection method most commonly used at the moment is satellite radar interferometry.

This paper addresses the precedence-constrained production scheduling problem (PCPSP) within the context of green long-term mining planning, aiming to optimize extraction processes while restricting carbon emission. This research offers a novel approach to comparing green technologies’ economic profitability and environmental sustainability of their mineral extraction based upon econometric and life cycle assessment methodologies. Quantitative results show attractive results with an NPV of $2,014,001 and an IRR of 17%. In the third year, the project nets at $300,000, or 63%, at a 7% discount rate. However, soil protection remains challenging, but pollution coefficients are improved, as evidenced by environmental impact assessments (EIAs). The use of geometallurgical variables to improve the accuracy obtained in mine planning is an increasingly present reality in mining. However, the way these variables are interpolated to construct the block model is still a major challenge since they are non-additive variables. In this case study, a database from a copper mine located in Brazil was used to compare mining planning by Direct Block Scheduling using two spatial interpolation approaches. Resource recovery is a process that has been used to obtain products from industrial waste. Mining tailings can be used as an alternative through ore beneficiation to create by-products for this type of waste. The work herein investigated the recovery of two products from a real tailing generated in the Zn beneficiation route in the flotation step. A non-magnetic fraction was submitted to a hydrometallurgical route to produce MgSO4 and CaSO4. The paper analyses the experience of almost one year of production of “green” electricity by a hydro-generator using a constant water drop in the pits of mine water pumping stations. The main technical, economic and environmental parameters obtained by the applied technical and organisational system are presented. Equipping the mine water pumping station with a hydro-generator proved to be a good investment. This research aims to optimize the efficiency and costs of drilling steel in sandstone and granodiorite rocks using machine learning techniques in a Peruvian mine. Predictive models, including random forest (RF), XGBoost (XGB), decision trees (DT), and artificial neural networks (ANN), were applied, along with optimization algorithms such as genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), and simulated annealing (SA). This study examines the living conditions of mining-affected persons in the Ahafo South Mining Communities in Ghana using Cernea’s Impoverishment Risks and Reconstruction (IRR) model. Employing a case study design, data for the study was obtained through a combination of semi-structured interviews and close-ended questionnaires administered to ninety (90) respondents in the Ntotroso and OLA resettlement communities in the Asutifi North District, Ghana. The results show a complex mix of outcomes of mining-induced displacement and resettlement of the resettled population. Dumping waste on weak soil layers can destabilize the dump, compromising its capacity for material disposal. This study focuses on the stability of dumps placed over weak black cotton (BC) soil strata in central India, with an emphasis on assessing the effectiveness of rockfill trenches (RFT) in improving dump stability. A combined approach using nine limit equilibrium methods (LEM) and the finite element method (FEM) was employed for analysis. Coal mining and exploitation pose certain challenges in terms of environmental management. The objective of this research is the study of airborne dust from Knurow region, Southern Poland, aiming to identify the level and the features of anthropogenic particles, mostly in the form of fly ash. Two samples collected from a domestic gutter system were analysed regarding their mineralogical, chemical and petrographical features, emphasizing the magnetic fraction and the carbonized organic particles. The primary objective of the research was to apply machine learning techniques to forecast the unit costs of ore hauling in an underground mine. The methodology employed was quantitative, with a non-experimental and descriptive design. Haulage data were collected over a 12-month period. Furthermore, an exploratory data analysis (EDA) was conducted using various models, including ANN-MLP (Artificial Neural Network – Multilayer Perceptron), Random Forests, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Support Vector Regression, Decision Tree, KNN, and Bayesian Regression, to handle the data’s complexity. This study investigates how explosive quantity and scaled distances affect peak particle velocity and establishes empirical equations to estimate this velocity at different distances from the blast area. The study found that the maximum charge per delay at a peak particle velocity of 10 mm/s was reduced to 13.46% as the delay timing was increased from 0 to 25 ms and 9.99% from 0 to 50 ms delay timing. The useful life of dump truck tyres is crucial for optimising economic efficiency and safety in mining operations. This study employs advanced hybrid models, including a generalised regression neural network (GRNN) combined with an artificial bee colony (ABC), ant colony optimisation (ACO), and firefly algorithm (FA), to predict tyre life at Perseus Mining Ghana Limited to enhance prediction accuracy. This paper presents the results of eco-efficiency and life cycle analysis conducted for two methane drainage technologies: cross-measure (CM) and long reach directionally drilled (LRDD) boreholes. In the analyses, data from coal mine methane drainage of two coal panels, I-C and II-C, located at the Staszic-Wujek coal mine in Poland, were used. The results of the life cycle and eco-efficiency assessments showed that employment of long reach directional drilling boreholes method has a lower environmental impact and is more eco-efficient, causing the lower environmental impact and lower construction and operating costs per cubic meter of methane extracted.
